ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES SUPERVISOR
Supervises maintenance, housekeeping and laundry employees to ensure compliance with facility standards and applicable JCAHO, Federal and State regulations. Orders and maintains necessary supplies and equipment to ensure a safe, sanitary environment for the residents/patients. Responsible for all aspects of financial and human resources management of the department.
• Oversees all aspects of the physical plant: mechanically, structurally, and cleanliness/presentation -
inside and out.
• Maintains laundry facilities and assures resident linen is distributed based on resident needs.
• Understands and maintains the boilers, burners and pneumatic temperature control systems.
• Assures the heat and hot water systems are maintained at the proper temperatures.
• Communicates the need for and plans for new equipment. Maintains all existing equipment.
• Understands and applies, Federal, State and Local, safety, sanitary and health codes for laundry,
housekeeping, plumbing, electrical and maintenance systems.
• Orders maintenance materials and equipment in accordance with budgets. Orders housekeeping
and laundry supplies in accordance with budgets.
• Secures the assistance of outside professionals, as needed, to properly maintain the physical plant.
• Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises all housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance personnel.
• Develops and coordinates the scheduling of work hours, personnel and work assignments in
accordance with the budget.
• Completes meaningful evaluations of environmental service employees post orientation and yearly
after that. Completes meaningful competency evaluations upon hire and at least yearly after that.
• Responsible for coaching environmental service staff to support positive behavior and interactions
with our customers (internal and external). Documents employee counseling sessions and initiates
disciplinary action as necessary in conjunction with the administrator.
• Organizes and implements a schedule for routine maintenance of essential equipment.
• Maintains a log of scheduled maintenance checks and performance checks of certain designated
equipment such as hot water temperatures, smoke detectors, sprinkler system, the boiler and the
generator.
• Performs additional duties and attends meetings such as CQI and Department Head at the direction
of the Administrator.
• Promotes a culture of safety in the Environmental Service Department. Uses protective/safety
equipment/interventions in accordance with facility policy and OSHA standards. Enforces safe
practices with staff. Thoroughly investigates any injuries related to your department and manages
department worker’s compensation cases with assistance from HR.
• Meets with residents and families as needed to discuss concerns and makes every effort to meet
their needs and desires.
• Makes efforts to recognize employees, educate and train employees and promotes employee
growth in an effort to increase retention and employee satisfaction in the environmental service
department.
• Assures check and balance systems are in place to identify potential system breakdowns. Examples
include: a preventative maintenance program, checks to be sure cleaning schedules and processes
are being adhered to, checks to be sure safety measures are being taken, checks to be sure
chemicals are being used properly and SDS sheets are reflective of current products.
• Attends in-services held at the facility and assures staff attend in-services held at the facility in a
timely manner.
• Understands and adheres to all infection control, sanitation, safety, accident, fire, disaster and
personnel policies and procedures of the facility.
• Assumes responsibility in supporting the Administrator in promoting and maintaining positive
employee relations and effective communications among facility staff.
• Understands and upholds the Residents' Bill of Rights and holds all resident information
confidential.
• Ensures appropriate communication systems within the department, between shifts and between
departments so all staff are knowledgeable about the day to day strategies and overall goals.
• Engages in the rounding for outcomes strategy with staff, residents and families in an effort to
assess whether there are any unmet needs/desires, to recognize staff for a job well done and/or
coaches staff as appropriate
