Padgett Business Services of NW Ohio is an accounting, payroll, and tax firm that has served the greater Toledo area for over 30 years.  We specialize in helping small businesses make more money while reducing their tax liabilities.  We have been growing the business significantly over the last few years and are looking for a motivated, hardworking, and dedicated Tax Associate to help us manage our workflow to achieve the growth.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Tax Associate will be primarily accountable to support our Tax Team and Accounting Team by performing tax and accounting preparation and reconciliation related tasks for our clients. 

 

SUMMARY OF PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Data Entry – Accurately and efficiently enter tax and accounting data into the various software we and our clients use.  Reconcile information entered to supporting documents to ensure accuracy of work.  Facilitate process improvements on overall data entry process.
  • Data Assembly/Delivery – Assemble monthly accounting financial statements and tax returns for delivery to client.  At times, deliver completed accounting, payroll, and tax information to clients
  • Paperless Process Control – scan necessary documents as needed and maintain standards throughout office for achieving paperless goals.
  • Work as an effective team member to complete project components and assignment tasks.
  • Build working relationships with colleagues and clients
  • Seek to gain knowledge of client businesses
  • Prepare and maintain financial data and records for assigned clients
  • Utilize and develop a functional understanding of various tax programs, tax and research software, and internal workflow/procedures
  • Effectively document work and perform bank account and other account reconciliations to validate the reported numbers.
  • Prepare Individual and Business tax returns as needed.
  • Ensure client complies with all taxing authority requirements and represent client before taxing authorities as needed.
  • Accurately report and release billable and non-billable time consistently and understand its importance
  • Provide assistance including tax research to managers and owners as needed.
  • Ambassador to the Universities
  • Ad hoc requests – respond to and complete other ad hoc projects as they arise. 

 

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

  • Resourceful – ability to obtain needed information quickly.
  • Data Entry – accurately and efficiently enter alpha-numeric data
  • Problem Solving – identify why accounts aren’t balancing to expected numbers and resolve it.
  • Computer proficient – working knowledge of PC based applications like Excel, Word, and Outlook along with Accounting Products like QuickBooks (Desktop and Online), Xero, HubDoc, Auto Entry, and the Creative Solutions Suite (Accounting CS, Practice CS, Fixed Assets CS, File Cabinet CS, etc.)
  • Internet proficient – ability to use the Internet to obtain answers to questions about certain transactions
  • Well organized with good time management and follow through skills
  • Quick learner/thinker – ability to grasp new concepts quickly and learn on the fly
  • A sound understanding of Accounting, Payroll, and Income / Payroll Tax Filing Requirements
  • Ability to work additional hours as workload demands

 

CLIMATE:

The successful candidate will interact with many of our clients and our staff and will likely have shifting priorities at times so a professional, positive, can do and will do attitude is critical.  Candidate must be able to work independently with little supervision and must be results oriented.  Basic training about our business and our expectations will be provided up front; additional training and coaching will exist throughout, but the candidate will be required to demonstrate independent success early on in the job.

Given the nature of our business, some early morning and evening hours will be required as well as some weekend hours. At times we work with short deadlines that need to be met and this at times creates stress and tension that needs to be managed.

REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
  • Minimum Experience: 1-3 Years
  • Must have thorough understanding of Accounting and Tax principles and have experience with how debits & credits work, the difference between assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenses, W-2’s, 1099’s, etc. and sales tax returns.
  • An understanding of QuickBooks, Xero, and other Accounting Software is a plus.
