Duties & Responsibilities



  • Run and complete projects from the field with limited assistance from a project manager. Depending on your location, you may work from job sites in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties.
  • Coordinate with the project manager when scheduling subcontractors and vendors, coordinating delivery dates on long lead items, and facilitating jobsite inspections.
  • Manage work performance quality, maintain the daily report, and ensure that the job stays on schedule while adhering to all safety procedures.
  • Interact effectively with company management, subcontractors, inspectors, clients, architects, and engineers.
  • Survey the site and confirm conditions.
  • Confirm the location of columns. Speak to your supervisor if you require clarification.
  • You will independently check the layouts (i.e., lights, A/C diffusers, and fire sprinklers), and resolve discrepancies.
  • Confirm the accuracy of plans against the site actuals, width, length, and height. Perform a site layout. Check squareness of site, measuring front to rear as well as rear to front and from side to side.
  • Use Procore to manage all current and post activity.
  • Check all plans to ensure the dimensions are finish or rough. Review and revise any discrepancies with the project manager.
  • Post the job schedule for everyone to view. If work is not going according to the job schedule, contact the project manager immediately and include your assessment on the daily report and weekly report.
  • Provide notes, details, and clarifications on individual pages, as well as specification sheets or books. Bring to the attention of the project manager any discrepancies. Use the Field R.F.I. form.
  • Ensure inspection calls are done in a timely manner. Have the permit card and Brodson’s contractor identification number ready for the municipality in which you are working. Know the rules of each building department concerning timely inspections.
  • If a project manager gives you authorization to speak with a client or architect/engineer, provide facts and not opinions. Direct clients to speak with the project manager concerning opinions on various matters, i.e., do not give an answer to an architect asking your thoughts on if there should be mitered or butt joints. This will alleviate any potential blame or liability. Summarize the client visit in your daily report.
  • Assess sub-contractor work as it is performed. When it’s not satisfactory, create and provide your own punch list to the sub-contractor to immediately correct the work. Record vendor issues and punch list items on your daily report.
  • All shop drawings, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing are to be sent to the project manager no later than 3 days after the job commences to ensure timely job progression.
  • Do not allow any sub-contractor to perform work that is not on the plan and not included in the contract without written authorization from the project manager. All work orders signed in the field must state very clearly that there is no price being agreed upon, just the extra work. Fill out the work order form following instructions to include in your daily report. This form may be used for extras, charge backs, and credits.
  • Standard working hours are 7 am to 4 pm -6 days per week, Monday through Saturday. However, a superintendent is responsible for the overall schedule and progress of the job. This position may require night shift work, off-hour work, Sunday work as necessary or required by the project.
