POSITION SUMMARY

This position works independently to provide timely, thorough and accurate budget estimates, comprehensive project budgets, hard and negotiated bid proposals, pertinent and accurate advice on cost savings and value engineering to project teams. The Estimator will complete conceptual cost plans, provide accurate quantity surveys, evaluate pricing, compare and analyze bids, create project specific subcontractor lists, maintain relationships with the subcontracting community, clarify discrepancy areas with the project architect and work constructively within a team environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Must assess and understand all bid submittal requirements, project general requirements, government and code requirements impacting the work of the project.
  • Develop accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for all phases of construction work with emphasis on the self-performed general conditions, concrete, masonry, and carpentry
  • Prepare estimates and issue proposals for concrete projects after reviewing design documents, drawings, specifications, and completing quantity take-offs.
  • Communicate with general contractors/construction managers to clarify scope of work and schedule requirements
  • Solicit and negotiates quotes from various vendors and subcontractors to obtain the most competitive cost for materials, equipment and sub-contractor labor.
  • Actively participate in the internal review of estimated
  • Review total estimate to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to final
  • Participate in hard bid estimating as well as assisting clients in developing schematic and GMP
  • Build relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and general
  • Organize and distribute all construction documents in a timely manner to subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers for
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, scope review meetings, reviews proposals and negotiates with
  • Transition awarded projects to project management and accounting by creating budgets, conducting “turn over” meetings to other team members, identifying special project requirements, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Responsible for estimated and won projects from inception until project is completed. Providing estimating support for the Project Management team throughout the project.
  • Conduct comprehensive post bid subcontractor scope reviews and project buyout. Follows up on bids for updates on status.
  • Undertake a variety of concrete estimating assignments as required to help the company grow and improve.
  • Always maintain high standards of professionalism and commit to excellence in the marketplace by understanding and exceeding customer expectations through integrity, honesty and ethical
  • Consistently monitor the latest building codes, pricing structures, new materials, new constructability concepts and trends within the concrete industry.
  • Build and develop trusting relationships with current customers and seek to identify opportunities to grow our customer base and build positive relationships.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE (Include necessary licenses and specialized training.).

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial construction performing cost estimation of concrete construction projects. Experience with elevated structural concrete work is preferred.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with computers and software, including Microsoft Office, digital take off programs, Bluebeam, and on-screen takeoff.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks, with an emphasis on thoroughness, and attention to detail.
