Project Overview:

U CAN EMPLOY (UCE) is a consulting and educational service supporting a company (i.e., UCE Partner Employer) eager to successfully recruit, hire, and retain employees on the autism spectrum with the professional guidance and clinical capabilities of the highly qualified consultants at Els for Autism. With the support of its clinicians in the fields of Employment Services, Applied Behavior Analysis, Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling, the transdisciplinary model of intervention of Els for Autism comes to life in the workplace for appropriate placement and support of employees with autism, leading to greater success and higher retention rates.

Job Purpose and Overview:

The U Can Employ (UCE) Consultant, reporting to the Program Director, will work closely with businesses and organizations that are members of UCE to provide expert guidance on creating inclusive employment environments and experiences for those on the autism spectrum.

Primary objectives are to:

  • Consult with companies in person or virtually to develop and implement strategies that foster a more inclusive workplace
  • Support companies in recruiting, hiring, mentoring and retaining autistic employees to ensure a sense of belonging
  • Research Autism Spectrum Disorder programs and services nationally and globally to determine cutting edge technologies and methodologies for adoption to advance the UCE programs and services.

Primary responsibilities:

  1. Conduct assessments of current workplace practices to identify areas for improvement in autism inclusion
  2. Assess the impact of current company policies to assess their impact on employees with ASD across the organization
  3. Advise businesses on best practices for creating an inclusive workplace
  4. Develop and deliver training programs to all levels of staff to increase awareness and understanding of autism
  5. Responsible for data analysis and reporting related to the effectiveness of autism inclusion initiatives and outlining areas for further improvement
  6. Collaborate with HR departments to develop inclusive policies and work closely with cross functional teams to integrate these policies into recruitment, onboarding and professional development across the organization
  7. Provide recommendations for reasonable accommodations and revise program materials as needed
  8. Work as a collaborative member of the UCE team

Qualifications

Environmental, Sensory and Social Requirements:

  • This position will work in various settings including shared office space, remote work, and travel to client companies
  • This position requires national travel which may include airplane flights, long distance car rides, and hotel stays.
  • This position requires a high level of social interaction: Including in-person, virtual, and phone interactions with a variety of professionals at all corporate levels.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to join sales and marketing meetings, meet new people, communicate sensitive information to companies' HR and management teams, and communicate a dedication to the UCE mission.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in applied behavior analysis, social work, special education, psychology, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working with autistic individuals in various settings.

Preferred:

  • Bilingual
  • Experience working with autistic adults across levels of support needs.
  • Experience in participating in, leading, or collaborating with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), particularly those focused on disability inclusion and neurodiversity.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant human resources practices.
