Job Summary:

The role of an Automation and Controls Engineer is to help design new products, assist with new product testing, and assist with field service startups and support tickets. This position will report to the Director R&D – Compliance.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work with research and development to develop PLC & HMI Programs, assist in design of electrical schematics and review schematics returned from electrical AutoCAD team.
  • Work with product engineering and assist with first article testing and program validation.
  • Work with field services on automation related information requests, start up support and commissioning of automated products, and on-site service when required.
  • Work with technical writing team to develop product documentation and manuals.
  • Work with sales to review customer proposals and comment on technical requirements.
  • Work with project management on required deliverables and schedules.
  • Performs other job-related duties as necessary or assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding of common communication protocols – required.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Travel required to support testing, start-ups and service calls. Estimated 30-50%
    1. Availability must include
      • Short notice.
      • Multi-week.
  • Follow company and customer safety standards.
  • Demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills:
    1. PLC and HMI.
    2. Serial and Ethernet networks.
    3. Strong problem-solving ability.
  • Understanding of safe practices with voltages over 120VAC
  • Ability to read and decipher electrical schematics.
  • Training:
    1. Production and testing teams on automation product setup procedures.
    2. Customers on installed automation equipment.
  • Evaluate new products to determine use possibilities in future products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Ability to work on complex projects with general direction and minimal guidance.

Education and Experience:

  • 1 to 5 years’ experience OR university/trade school degree.
  • Knowledge in designing and maintaining automation control systems:
  • Rockwell Automation and Codesys – preferred.
  • PID – preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting, standing, and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.

Work Location: Maverick Power Phoenix, AZ facility.

Work Environment:

May work in various settings at the Maverick Power facilities, in offices, in multiple shops, and in commercial buildings. Maintaining the same position or posture while performing tasks and sitting for extended periods.

Required to lift 25lbs.
