GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Information Systems and Technology Technician supports the City’s information technology infrastructure and related systems. Provides consultation, support, and technical assistance to management and individual users. Provides customer service and technical support for the installation and maintenance of the City’s computer workstation operating systems, peripheral equipment, and telecommunication systems. This position supports the City’s IT Manager in assisting departments with needs and provides user training in the use of workstations and peripheral equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist with the implementation of IT system strategies to meet City goals and objectives.
  2. Provide technical support; priorities and responds to trouble reports from users regarding phones, mobile devices, workstations, printers, and other computer peripherals.
  3. Perform workstation troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common hardware and software problems; correct problems and follow up with users as necessary.
  4. Provide technical support to users; answer questions, respond to complaints and resolve problems related to software and hardware malfunctions. Repair or arrange for repairs related to software and hardware malfunctions.
  5. Perform preventative workstation equipment maintenance, upgrade hardware and software on workstations.
  6. Perform setup, installs, configuration, and relocation of various workstations hardware and software components.
  7. Update and integrate computers, workstations, communications equipment and peripherals; install and configure hardware and software upgrades, enhancements and revisions; verify functionality, compatibility and performance of workstations and telecommunications systems.
  8. Prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports, and logs.
  9. Configure and maintain mobile computers, City phone system (VoIP) and security (key-card) system including troubleshooting, repair, updates, and backups.
  10. Assist with projects assuring the integrity, security and effective performance of the City’s information systems.
  11. Assist with the administration of user network and email accounts; troubleshoot problems with accounts, network rights and file access; perform maintenance, repair, updates, and daily backups for the network; perform server installation, maintenance, upgrades, and repair.
  12. Assist with website maintenance for the City’s website and intranet.
  13. Perform duties as assigned; support special IT project efforts and assist the IT Manager as directed.
  1. Operate independently with moderate supervision.
  2. Work in new and varied work situations involving an intermediate level of complexity and follow established practices and procedures. Contribute to the development of new concepts as needed.
  1. Maintain appropriate confidentiality of work-related issues, including but not limited to customer, employee and City information and records.

  • Maintenance principles of network operating domains, relational databases and MS Windows-based software applications.
  • Business collaboration solutions (such as SharePoint).
  • VPN, basic HTML and JAVA.
  • Communications technology, equipment and integrated applications.
  • Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access; MS Exchange and Active Directory; SharePoint, etc. Certifications a plus.
  • Firewall security policies and best practices.

Ability to:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Experience and Education/Training:

  • An Associate degree in computer operations, computer science, or related field AND a minimum of two years experience related to end user/workstation network and operating systems experience; OR a combination of education and experience sufficient to provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history background check.

Preferred:

  • Municipal government experience with knowledge of public records databases, search policies and best practices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

The City of Mill Creek provides a tobacco-free environment for its employees; smoking/tobacco use is prohibited in City facilities and vehicles.
