Position: Virtual Engineer

Work Location: Falls Church, Virginia

Client: Fairfax County Government ("FCG") and Fairfax County Public Schools

Key Responsibilities:

    • Administer a network of Windows and Linux servers, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
    • Install and configure virtualization technologies such as VMware, RedHat, Azure VM, and Microsoft Hyper-V, integrating them seamlessly with the existing infrastructure.
    • Manage and maintain virtual server environments, including deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting virtual machines.
    • Optimize virtual server performance through system tuning and resource allocation.
    • Manage system user accounts and profiles, ensuring proper access controls and permissions.
    • Maintain system security by implementing best practices and ensuring compliance with security policies.
    • Ensure the security of virtual servers by implementing appropriate security measures, including patch management, firewalls, and access controls.
    • Regularly tune system parameters to enhance performance and stability.
    • Work closely with County staff to integrate virtual server solutions with the broader IT infrastructure.
    • Ensure seamless integration of virtual environments with storage, networking, and backup systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in administering and managing virtual server environments, particularly with VMware, RedHat, Azure VM, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux server administration.
  • Experience in managing system user accounts, profiles, and security measures.
  • Proficiency in system performance tuning and resource optimization.
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and how virtual servers integrate within it.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex virtual server issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Relevant certifications in virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware Certified Professional, RedHat Certified Engineer) are a plus.
