Job DescriptionJob Description

Lakeland University, an independent liberal arts institution located in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, wishes to hire and build a pool of adjunct instructors for open and future part-time teaching assignments and invites applicants from a diverse group for these positions.

All classes are taught face-to-face at Lakeland's main campus in Sheboygan, WI.

Courses are taught as either 14-week 55 minutes/class or could be taught as a 12-week 65 minutes/class to allow more flexibility in the semester. The scheduling of the course will be at a mutually agreed upon time.

POSITION PURPOSE:

Facilitate the teaching and learning of Life and Career Studies program courses to students primarily in the Life and Career Studies program. This posting is to fill immediate course needs in the FALL 2024 term, and beyond.

Courses include:

  • LAK 207: Personal Development Special Topics

This comprehensive life skills course is designed to empower individuals with the essential knowledge and abilities necessary for successful independent living. The course covers a range of practical topics vital for personal development. Special topics may include personal finance, health and well-being, culinary skills, nutrition basics, household management, organization strategies, home maintenance, time management, goal setting, decision-making, problem-solving, effective communication, assertiveness, and conflict resolution, all aimed at empowering individuals for successful independent living.

  • LAK 208: Community Living and Engagement Special Topic

This course equips individuals with essential life skills for thriving in community living, emphasizing collaboration, responsibility, engagement, and societal contribution. Topics include interpersonal relationships, civic participation, and community engagement, as well as community access to resources for both independent living and leisure activities, housing, and transportation. Information is provided through theoretical knowledge, practical exercises, and real-life simulations. Emphasis is placed on diversity, inclusivity, cultural competence, effective collaboration, and ethical decision-making to foster healthy community dynamics and empower participants as contributing members of society.

LAK 207 and LAK 208 are designed to serve primarily our LCS students in their second - fourth years of study. Using a special topics model will enable us to develop and pursue more individualized academic plans for LCS students. We anticipate most LAK 207 and LAK 208 sections will be one-credit offerings that further allow LCS students to choose from an array of special topics that align with the goals of their person-centered-plans. Secondarily, we also anticipate that some special topics will be of value and interest to our traditional students.

The topic being taught is open for discussion, with considerations taken from the instructor's expertise and interests, and input from the program director to ensure alignment with the program's overall objectives and standards.

Successful candidates must hold at least a master's degree in a related field* or have completed at least 18 graduate credits in a relevant field. Special permission to qualify an instructor based on relevant experience may be possible.

* Some LAK course special topics will have an easily identifiable degree in a related field, i.e. an MBA to teach personal finance, a MA in Counseling to teach mental health and self-care. For other topics, a master's degree in any field and demonstrated competency in teaching the topic will be sufficient, for example, self-determination skills, social skills, community transportation don't have an easily identifiable related degree.
