Manager of Visitor and Volunteer Services

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Visitor Services Associates are the initial and primary point of contact with all Museum patrons are responsible for ensuring positive experiences while maintaining the Museum's mission and standards.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

Working with our Visitor Services Shift Leads and the Manager of Visitor and Volunteer Services, VS Associate responsibilities include:

  • Opening and closing of the lobby, front desk area, Café, and Landers House public spaces.
  • Welcome all patrons with a professional and friendly presence.
  • Maintain inviting and organized front of the house areas.
  • Manage admission lines and event check-in areas.
  • Accurately manage point of sale systems for admission and event ticket sales.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all Museum programs and events.
  • Accurately answer any and all questions regarding the NBMAA's permanent collection, featured special exhibitions, and public programming.
  • Support Museum operations by maintaining a clean, safe and friendly atmosphere.
  • Assist with hospitality set-up at Museum special events.
  • Provide organizational support as coordinated by management.
  • Additional Visitor Services tasks as assigned by Visitor Services Shift Leads and the Manager of Visitor and Volunteer Services.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Museum-wide Tessitura software program. Candidates will receive paid training.
  • Working knowledge of the Museum's permanent collection, as well as featured exhibitions.
  • Awareness of educational and community outreach programming.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Modern computer skill proficiency.
  • Retail sales and food service experience would be a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Schedule flexibility and a part-time commitment of fifteen to twenty-two (15 - 22) hours per week, including a minimum of one (1) weekend day and two (2) weekdays.
  • Candidates must be willing to work some evenings and weekends as assigned for Museum events and programming.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. and remain in a stationary, standing position for a portion of their scheduled shift.
  • Ability to continuously perform tasks such as keying information into computer systems, phone inquiries, and point of sale stations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one year's experience in sales, customer service and cash handling experience. College degree and prior museum work preferred.
