The Challenge Course Specialist plans and executes activities in 45-minute chunks for campers with varying ages, experience, and skill levels at J Camp. Activities will take place on and off the (NEW) challenge course. This job requires some prep time leading up to camp, including a full day of challenge course training, and works closely with the Assistant Camp Director.
Schedule: 7-10 weeks during summer (+1 week of training); Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education/Experience:
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Experience with ropes courses, or willingness to become rope course certified.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification for adults/children/infants, or willing to take courses before the start of camp (training will be offered through the J).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety practices.
- Ability to coach and empower campers, counselors in training, and fellow staff members.
- Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with campers, team members, and supervisors.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively independently and in a team setting.
- Ability to exercise good judgment.
Additional Employment Requirements:
- Satisfactorily pass a criminal background check.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
Compensation and Benefits Include:
- Full Family SJCC Membership which includes gym, basketball court and pool. (Employees who work 20+ hours)
- Discounts for SJCC programming for you and your family.
- Washington Paid Sick Leave (Part-time, on call, seasonal employees)
- Washington State Pay Range: $19.00/hour to $ 22.00/hour
- Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided based on factors including but not limited to, skills, relevant experience, and specific work location.
