Summary:

Viking Property Solutions (VPS) is a full-service landscaping company. We are hiring a full-time mechanic to start immediately. We are looking for a mechanic with experience and extensive knowledge of general repairs and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Equipment includes everything from weed trimmers and hedgers to heavy equipment such as tractors, and loaders, as well as both gas and diesel trucks and trailers. Applicants should possess a wide range of mechanical knowledge, have their own tools, and be motivated in a fast-paced environment.

This position is for someone who already has extensive mechanical knowledge and is willing to jump into other tasks as needed. This may include running machinery, going to a job site to complete diagnostics and/or repairs on machinery as needed, and other odd jobs. This person must have a great attitude, willingness to work well with others and drive to get things done.

Our services include regular maintenance, plantings, hardscapes, irrigation, and construction. Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Clean and maintain assigned work areas, including common shop areas and facility grounds. (ex. maintain recyclables, address fluid spills, and organize bulk storage of tires, etc.)
  • Manage inventory of spare parts and order necessary supplies to maintain a well-stocked and organized shop.
  • Monitor vehicle fuel and other essential fluids.
  • Complete required equipment and vehicle maintenance service forms, and logs promptly.
  • Respond to disabled equipment and vehicles in the field during or before normal business hours.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles, including but not limited to lubrication and oil changes, seat repair, brake, wheel, tire, battery services, belt, hose, headlight, and basic component replacement.
  • Perform basic to intermediate skill-level repair work on vehicles and heavy equipment, including small to large diesel engines. This includes but is not limited to Electrical suspension, brakes, hydraulic systems, drivetrain, and trailers.
  • Perform basic to intermediate troubleshooting and diagnosis of mechanical/electrical problems.
  • Ensure all equipment and vehicles meet safety standards and regulations, conduct safety checks, and make necessary adjustments.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Prompt, professional, and dependable.
  • Strong attention to detail and is highly organized.
  • Ability to solve problems. Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations.
  • Ability to actively listen and follow directions. Summarizes what one has heard and verifies the procedures and directions one has been given before starting a task.
  • Effective communication skills. Ability to share ideas, concisely, and effectively.
  • Good communication skills, mild temperament, and ability to multitask (adapt to change while taking direction on the go, in a fast-paced environment).
  • Must be able to read and comprehend technical reference materials (equipment and repair manuals)
  • The ability to drive automatic and manual transmission.
  • The ability to operate large machinery is a plus.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the organization.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Must pass a background check and drug test.
  • Experience with Microsoft and diagnostic applications.

Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations, and standards.

Education / Experience:

  • High school or equivalent (preferred).
  • Must have your own toolbox/tools (required).
  • Minimum of 2 yrs. proven experience in a repair shop.
  • Knowledge of gas and diesel truck repairs and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of small engine and heavy machinery repairs and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the Landscaping industry (preferred).
  • Welding and body fabrication experience (preferred).
  • Formal training and certifications a plus.

 

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

  • Job requires constant movement, walking stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Frequently required to lift and/or move 50 to 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Constantly working outdoors – must be able to work in various types of weather conditions and exposure to the elements (extreme heat, cold, preparing for severe weather, etc.)
  • Heavy to moderate noise, extreme proximity to moving equipment or machinery, proximity to electrical energy.
