We are currently seeking a QC Chemist to join our quality team based in Chaska, MN. This salaried, full-time role will report to our Quality Control Manager and work onsite five days per week. The QC Chemist's main responsibility will be to be a part of a collaborative team that will contribute to the success of our customers by ensuring product quality through the evaluation of raw material, bulk, and finished products and ensuring compliance with specifications. This role will be on our third shift.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Perform testing and evaluations of raw material, bulk, and finished products following written procedures.

  • Ensures current standard operating and test procedures are utilized.
  • Documentation records are accurate and in compliance with good manufacturing practices (GMP) requirements.
  • Develops and maintains an understanding of various testing methodologies, including appropriate
    techniques and potential errors.
  • Always maintains neat and accurate records and clean and organized work areas.

2. Ensures product quality specifications and customer standards are met and maintained to the Customers' satisfaction.

  • Ensures test results meet current specifications before completion/approval.
  • Performs batch adjustments as needed in batch-making procedures.
  • Trouble-shooting out-of-specification (OOS) situations.
  • Ensures current reference and product standards are properly maintained.
  • Updates test procedures and specifications as needed.

3. Utilizes data to focus improvement efforts so customer requirements and regulatory regulations are met

  • Accurately records all data (cGMP) and pertinent information
  • Accurately documents monthly Key Quality Indicators (KQI)
  • Documents OOS situations, determines root cause, and suggests possible solutions
  • Maintains compliance with current regulatory expectations and practices (e.g. USP)

4. Understand and maintain a culture of "lean action" within the department so that we live lean better than any organization.

  • Implement and maintain standards and processes that eliminate waste throughout the department.
  • Apply and utilize "lean tools" to permanently implement improvements
  • Institutionalize 5S in all aspects of the department. (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain)

5. Perform other work as assigned.


Qualification and Skill Requirements

Education and Prior experience

  • 0-2 years GMP lab experience; prefer a minimum of 6 months experience in a Chemistry lab environment such as pharmaceutical, cosmetics, personal care, food processing, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related science discipline and/or equivalent experience

Technical Competencies

  • Must have knowledge and experience with wet chemistry techniques, including analytical balance, volumetric glassware, pH, titration, UV/Vis, and FTIR experience is preferred.
  • Can maintain and grow technical knowledge and expertise. Can be accurate, precise and pay attention to detail.
  • Has working knowledge and experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Can read and follow written work instructions and specifications.
  • Ability to perform testing, review testing data and report on results.

Physical Requirements

  • Continuous (6 to 8 hours per day) standing and walking.

Sensory requirements

  • Good eyesight, normal hearing, and fluency in the English language.

Working Conditions

  • Indoors, generally.
  • Will be exposed to various fragrances which may sometimes be at elevated levels.
  • Able to utilize stairways.
  • Able to respond and adapt to changes in the work environment.
  • Able to work in a high-paced work environment.

Work Schedule

  • This position usually works an 8 to 12-hour shift. However, work hours are flexible and will fluctuate based on the needs of the business and the customers. Depending on work demands, the job may require a maximum of 5-20 hours of work beyond the normal work-week schedule. The work hours can vary depending on customer requirements and staffing.
