Job DescriptionJob DescriptionUnder direction of the Practice Administrator, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is a multi-skilled health professional who works interdependently with other health professionals to provide quality health care to the patient. The CMA is educated and trained to perform both administrative and clinical skills in the medical care environment. You will support doctors and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. The incumbent must work collaboratively with all Clinical services staff in support of direct patient services, exhibiting flexibility and a can do attitude. The position must exemplify the core values and mission of the practice, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient/staff interactions.

Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.

CLINICAL

a. Establish relationships with patients ranging from 1 day to 21 years old, and their parents.

b. Interview patients and document basic medical history and chief complaint

c. Check with patients and type up patients charts

d. Assist during medical examinations and minor procedures

e. Prepare and clean treatment rooms and medical instruments.

f. Perform/assist with routine in-house pediatric procedures such as phlebotomy, finger sticks, basic lab tests, EKGs, PFTs, etc.

g. Responsible for managing vaccines, drawing up vaccinations and documentation.

h. Perform hearing and vision tests, venipuncture and intramuscular injections.

i. Communicate with patient's families on behalf of the providers and coordinate follow-up care.

j. Provide patient education regarding office policies, medications, management of disease, home treatments and special diets.

k. Dispose of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
  • Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills; Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office and patient management software
  • Must be highly flexible; able to accommodate changing needs of the practice.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in English; Additional language abilities preferred (Spanish)
  • Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision. Proven flexibility and willingness to handle a variety of tasks.
  • Occasional lift/carry 10lbs or more.
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Graduation from high school or equivalent plus one to 3 years of medical assistant experience in comparable health care setting, Pediatrics preferred.
  • Graduate of Medical Assisting Program
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR
  • CMA certification at hire; or within 3 months
Bilingual A plus (Spanish)
