ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Youth and Community Development, supports the recruitment and intake efforts of programs within Community Wellness and Workforce Development in South Shore. Program Outreach Coordinator is responsible for reaching out to program eligible youth and families who are not being served or are underserved by Lawrence Hall. Develops trusting and credible relationships with community members and community stakeholders to support youth recruitment. Effective use of verbal and written communication skills. High level of community credibility. Models pro-social and professional behavior. Requires knowledge of trauma exposure, knowledge of the 5 S's of trauma: Safety, Self-Regulation/Soothing, Supportive, Strengths, Self-Care, and an understanding of and recognition of the signs of traumatic stress. Ability to effectively use both verbal and physical intervention skills with individuals eleven (11) through adulthood. Physical intervention skills require the ability to kneel and return to standing without assistance. Ability to safely navigate the local community while reaching out directly to potential high-risk program participants. Ability to work a flexible schedule.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct outreach within the community to build strong relationships with youth, parents, residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations
  • Distribute promotional material about Lawrence Hall's services
  • Spend time in locations where at-risk and program eligible youth congregate to develop trusting relationships that encourage program engagement
  • Conduct home visits to support the development of positive relationships with youth and families
  • Maintain a high level of community credibility as a positive messenger to the target population
  • Model pro-social, safe and professional behavior at all times
  • Coordinate recruitment and family engagement activities
  • Maintain personal and community member safety while conducting street outreach activities
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all programs and services offered by Lawrence Hall, in-particular those offered in South Shore
  • Effectively communicate the results of eligibility and intake assessments to the program team to support assigning of a case manager
  • Effective communication with team members and external parties
  • Prepare program reports for program compliance
  • Develop and implement scopes of work, policies, and procedures for individual programs along side Program Managers and Vice President of Youth and Community Development
  • Promote appropriate strategies using the 5 S's and therapeutic de-escalation skills
  • Attend training related to being trauma informed-at least two every twelve months
  • Mediate conflicts with respect and dignity
  • Actively involved in planning and delivery of training related to own area of expertise and needs of programs supervised
  • Uses active and reflective listening skills and affirmations to demonstrate respect and empathy, avoiding negative and derogatory labels that foster disrespect
  • Maintain confidentiality of employees, volunteers, and program participants to provide a safe environment
  • Acts as a positive representative of the agency and steward of external relationships
  • Ability to work effectively with program participants and family members, employees and vendors in a culturally diverse environment to support healing and recovery
  • Attend all meetings and in-service training as required
  • Participate in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement activities as assigned
  • Maintain personal area and program service areas in a neat and orderly fashion
  • Accurately complete documents as needed including service logs, youth/student participants and other necessary documentation
  • Engage in continuing education and professional development in an effort to provide best practice
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in human services or related field or with 3 years of related work or lived experience
  • Strong sales ability and demonstrated positive relationships or credibility in the South Shore community
  • Must be highly organized, detail focused, have excellent time management and possess strong computer skills
  • Knowledge of childhood trauma and prior experience working in settings with youth and families that have been exposed to trauma or experiencing traumatic stress preferred
  • Knowledge of youth development, adolescent issues, positive youth development/strength-based approach preferred
  • Personal vehicle or access to vehicle and proof of insurance
  • Valid Illinois Driver's license
  • No history of child abuse or neglect
  • Ability to pass background and drug screen

This position meets the FLSA requirements for Exempt.
