Manager's Title: Clinical Operations Supervisor


Summarize the major function of the position:

Supports providers and provides a positive patient experience by preparing patients for exams, performing certain medical and laboratory procedures, explaining treatments and answering patient questions, and maintaining necessary files and supplies.


List essential functions of the position:

  1. Escorts patients to exam rooms to take a medical history.
  2. Prepares patients for examination, explains treatment procedures, and gives instructions as directed by the provider.
  3. Ensures all related reports, labs, and information are available in the patient's medical records prior to the appointment.
  4. Assists the provider during exams.
  5. Assists with the collection of laboratory specimens.
  6. Performs basic laboratory testing only as required, such as HCG.
  7. Prepares medications as directed by a physician, as needed.
  8. Transmits prescription requests and refills as directed.
  9. Removes sutures and changes dressings.
  10. Keeps exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintains instruments, and prepares sterilization as required.
  11. Takes telephone messages and communicates with patients, physicians, pharmacies, and documents this information into the Electronic Medical Record.
  12. Triages and processes messages from patients and front desk staff to physicians.
  13. Responsible for completion of all paperwork related to the patient, such as faxes, prior authorizations, lab work clarification, prescription refills, and prescription clarification, completion of chart notes, and the management of treatment notes from referring and outside providers.
  14. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. High school diploma.
  2. Minimum one year of medical assistant experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Familiarity with electronic medical records systems.
  2. Excellent organizational skills and customer service skills.

  1. Ability to talk, see, and hear.
  2. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for most or all of the work day.
  3. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  4. Ability to operate all medical equipment required to perform a job.
  5. Ability to work flexible and extended hours to accommodate office staffing needs.
  6. Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles; moderate noise exposure; potential exposure to contagious patients and specimens.
