Job DescriptionJob Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Assist with the revenue cycle management of SERA’s Billing Department with a primary focus on ensuring physician charges and injectable drug charges are accurately coded as required by current coding standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Enter charges daily for all physicians ensuring accurate coding.
  2. Ensure prior day’s charges have been accurately prepared and ready to bill insurance in a timely manner.
  3. Verification of correct injectable drug charges using PODIS – reporting any discrepancies to Billing Manager in a timely manner.
  4. Edit previously submitted charges as needed due to identified billing errors and/or insurance requirement changes.
  5. Maintain copy of fee slips on shared drive for Chattanooga POD.
  6. Verification of correct insurance policy loaded in PMS and bill according to carrier policy requirements.
  7. Maintain ‘Missed Visit’ report monthly to ensure all charges are entered.
  8. Maintain current Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) Certification through AAPC.
  9. Answer incoming calls from patients, front desk staff and clinical staff as needed assisting in what may be necessary to satisfactory resolution of the issue.
  10. Processing over the phone patient credit card payments.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES

  1. Requires in depth understanding of patient collection rules and regulations.
  2. Requires ability to maintain rules and regulations for refunds, both patient and insurance with the ability to apply knowledge to daily responsibilities.
  3. Ability to keep pace with a high volume of patients while performing multiple, sometimes complex tasks.
  4. Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, staff and other persons contacted in the course of the work.
  5. Proven records of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in work performed including the ability to enter data accurately in end –user computer applications (MS Office, electronic health/medical records and patient billing and other medical information systems).

EDUCATION | EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Required

Two years’ experience in a medical office with knowledge of medical reimbursement and coding. Required

Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) Certification Required

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work may require sitting for long periods of time; also stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds.

Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, operates a calculator, telephone, copier and other office equipment as necessary. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in an office environment. Work involves frequent contact with staff members, physicians and the public.

Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Occasional evening or weekend work as needed.
