The CHW Lab & X-Ray manager position is responsible for managing staff and all lab and x-ray operations of CHW clinics, including specimen collections and services.

Required:           

  • Certified as a Medical Radiologic Technician by the State of Texas -OR- 3+ years of management/supervisory experience in a lab setting.
  • 1 year of management/supervisory experience in a lab setting required.
  • Prefer certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or eligible for certification through ASCP, with at least two years of lab tech experience.
  • Prefer 2+ years of experience providing x-rays or lab services in a primary care clinic or FQHC.
  • Prefer 2+ years of experience using an Electronic Medical Record system.
  • Current CPR preferred (must successfully complete CPR certification within 6 months of employment).
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Ability for spur of the moment transportation without relying on organization vehicles.
  • Must possess or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Department of Motor Vehicle check may be required, if applicable.
  • Customer Service Oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent Computer Skills MS Office.
  • Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend hours if necessary.
  • Must be in compliance with GCHD Immunizations policy.
  • Must be in compliance with ICS training requirements.
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening.

 

An equivalent combination of education and work experience which appropriately demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above-described essential functions will be considered when hiring for this role.

 

Traditional Duties:

  • Oversees lab staff’s performance. Trains in accordance with written procedures, assures specimens are properly collected and processed for testing by a contract lab; reviews lab procedures for accuracy and recommends changes.
  • Reviews lab reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Tracks critical lab results to ensure they are followed up by a provider.
  • Tracks timely receipt of all results, assists in maintaining all equipment/instruments to ensure they are functioning according to standards.
  • Troubleshoots all laboratory equipment on an as needed basis.
  • Keeps all protocols updated with medical director or designated Supervisor.
  • Maintains certification requirements for laboratory.
  • Assures laboratory meets guidelines for CLIA, JACHO and DSHS inspections.
  • Requests clinical lab and x-ray supplies and equipment and supervises the storage and distribution of same.
  • Assures all quality control activities are performed and documented.
  • Reports quality issues and adverse occurrences promptly to supervisor and/or the Quality Assurance Committee.
  • Oversees the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and performs audits for timely completion of duties for Dental and Medical.
  • RSO, is responsible for overseeing matters relating to radiation protection, confirms all training, assists/performs phantom testing, answers questions and concerns related to radiation protection, and serves as the contact person with the state.
  • Performs and supervises diagnostic procedures in x-ray examinations.
  • Reviews x-ray procedures for accuracy and recommends changes; reviews x-ray reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitors all radioactive badges to ensure that exposure is within federal and state guidelines.
  • Assists in maintaining all equipment/instruments to ensure they are functioning according to standards.
  • Troubleshoots all x-ray equipment on an as needed basis.
  • Develops x-ray and lab procedures.
  • Keeps all protocols updated with Medical Director and or Supervisor.
  • Assures x-ray documentation and equipment meets guidelines for CLIA, JACHO and DSHS inspections.
  • Attending internal District meetings.
  • May reconcile services performed with vendor bills or statements.
  • Understands and follows GCHD/CHW Infection Control policies, plans, procedures and guidelines related to program area requirements.
  • Participates and contributes to Quality Assurance, compliant, and TJC Committee.
  • Responsible for ensuring all bio-hazardous waste is disposed of properly.
  • Adhere to job specific competencies within established departmental deadlines.
  • Timely completion of subpoena requests for results and tests.
  • Maintains audits for lab and x-rays to confirm proper/timely reporting of results. Verifies order statuses by self-audits.  Audits assigned results for timely completion of retrieving proper Provider signatures as required by The Joint Commission.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
