Purpose and Scope

To support the Diocese of Phoenix in its mission of encountering the living Christ, this position assists in strategic oversight and administration of the properties and buildings of the Diocese of Phoenix.

This position provides guidance and assistance in the construction management of new buildings, TI renovations, major maintenance projects, renovations projects, and emergency repairs for diocesan, parish, and school buildings and properties as well as serving as a procedural liaison with relevant government agencies.


Essential Job Functions

· Coordinates new construction and major renovations of buildings and properties, as assigned by the Director of Construction.

· Responsible for all phases of construction management on assigned projects, including, and not limited to the following:

  • Make certain that all diocesan approvals are obtained in the proposal, design and construction.
  • Evaluates project funding sources and uses in coordination with the Diocesan Finance Department.
  • Oversees budget management, pay requests, contract administration, site inspections and warranty issues.
  • Ensures compliance with all legal and safety requirements in partnership with the Assistant Construction Project Coordinator.
  • Confirms use of architects, engineers, specialty consultants, and contractors acceptable to the Diocese.
  • Performs field visits and prepares reports on major construction projects.
  • Reviews and comments on plans submitted for Diocesan Building Commission.
  • Prepares assigned projects for the Diocesan Building Commission.
  • Works with design team to ensure conformance with Office of Worship and Liturgy guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

· Ability to work in a team environment and maintain good working relationships with diocesan and parish staff.

· Ability to effectively evaluate, negotiate and execute design, service, and construction contracts.

· Knowledge of management, planning and supervision of construction projects.

· Willingness to keep current in construction methods, building types, renovation, and maintenance fields.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Spanish proficiency preferred.

· Ability to work with a diverse multi-cultural community.

· Ability to make decisions, solve problems and consult, reflecting Catholic teachings and traditions.

· Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

· Working knowledge of computer applications related to all job functions.

· Ability to achieve professional confidence of others and to elicit cooperation of others.

· Able to manage multiple complex tasks/projects and remain calm under pressure.

· Able to demonstrate a high level of integrity and professionalism.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

· B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or other related field.

· Licensure in respective field preferred.

· A minimum of five years’ experience in project management of multiple projects with an emphasis in construction.

· Active practicing Roman Catholic who is in full communion with the Church.

· Able to articulate a clear understanding of the Catholic faith and to serve as a committed witness to its mission.

· Able to maintain a current AZ driver’s license, understanding that frequent travel and site visits to parishes and schools is a part of the role.

· Ability to exercise prudent and independent judgment, and maintain efficient, confidential procedures in handling Diocesan matters.


Work Environment

· This job operates in a professional office environment.

· This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, office/cell phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

· Frequent field visits to parishes and other properties will be required.

· Occasional work on evenings or weekends may be required.

· Will be expected to adhere to diocesan dress codes and conduct standards.

· Will be required to use a personal vehicle to drive to parishes or other locations.


Physical Demands

· This role will require site inspection work including walking construction sites, climbing rooftops and scaffolding.
