Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescriptionPURPOSEThe IT Director is responsible for establishing and executing the IT strategy, ensuring its integration with the mission strategy of the Christian Reformed Church (CRC), enabling the CRC to extend the reach of its mission.  The IT Director participates in and contributes to the overall organization’s operating model by bringing current knowledge and future vision of leveraging information and technology in service of the organization’s mission.

Compensation: $124,881/year USD or $124,220/year CAD

This position offers a flexible work schedule, an attractive benefits package (including retirement fund contribution), and three weeks of vacation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following
  1. Development of the IT strategic plan and roadmap. Ensures integration with the organization’s strategic planning process including innovation and digital workplace initiatives.
  2. Maintain currency on new technologies and platforms. Assess opportunities, threats, and internal technology capabilities. Provide direction on what emerging technologies should be assimilated, integrated and introduced within the organization to achieve its ministry and mission goals.
  3. Ensure users have the tools and work environment to be more engaged, productive and effective.
  4. Drives the development of organization’s technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics.
  5. Ensures I&T capabilities are delivered reliably, sustainably, cost effectively and securely.  
  6. Ensures the IT contributions are delivered with agility based on changing mission objectives, goals, and strategies.
  7. Provides  oversight for the design, development, operation and support of I&T systems and programs, which often includes serving in a project manager role. 
  8. Develops and controls annual operating and capital expenditure budget for IT consistent with the organization ’s overall strategic objectives.
  9. Enhances IT’s capabilities by leveraging a multitude of resources, both internally and externally. Directs the development of the IT sourcing strategy and provides oversight for strategic vendor and partner relationship management.
  10. Provide regular supervision, coaching, feedback, and support to CRCNA IT staff.
  11. Monitor individual and team goals to ensure successful completion of annual plans; evaluate staff performance on a regular basis and resolve performance issues as they arise.
  12. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESOversight of IT Department
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE:QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Able to support the mission, vision, and values of the CRCNA.
  2. Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate vision that inspires and motivates staff.
  3. Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources may not be in direct control of this role.
  4. Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning and execution skills.
  5. Strong mission acumen, including faith-based organizations, domain-specific knowledge of the organization and its mission units.
  6. Expertise in budget planning and financial management.
  7. Deep understanding of current and emerging technologies and how other organizations are employing them to drive organizational missions.
  8. Ability to manage geographically diverse teams and overcome the culture differences that may exist.
  9. Ability to identify and leverage resources internally and externally to the organization to enhance capabilities that serve the CRC’s mission.
  10. Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change and build capabilities that effectively balance the needs for continuously exploiting capabilities to optimize operational efficiency in highly ambiguous situations.
  11. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain concepts and technologies to instill confidence with peers and all key stakeholders.
  12. Experienced in leading complex projects with many stakeholders.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Diploma or university degree is required.  B.S. in the field of computer science, or business administration is desired; Master’s degree in management or a related technology field is preferred.
  2. Significant experience supervising, managing and/or directing technology operations required, demonstrated experience supervising staff in multiple technology disciplines (e.g. application development, network/infrastructure, helpdesk) is preferred.
  3. Demonstrated experience in application development and network/infrastructure discipline is preferred.

  • The ability to have a weekly presence in the CRC offices in Burlington, Ontario, Canada or Grand Rapids, Michigan, U.S.A.
  • The ability to travel within North America.
  • The ability to be present at the annual meeting of Synod (every June for 10-14 days)

  • Frequent video calls/meetings are required
  • Travel outside of the office is necessary at times (less than 25%)
