Identifies and develops lending opportunities and markets, qualifies and initiates loans to borrowers of commercial & industrial (non-real estate) assets such as inventory, equipment and accounts receivable. Ensures the quality of the portfolio meets or exceeds the bank’s standards (e.g., credit) for commercial & industrial loans. Anticipates and recommends development of, or revisions to, commercial loan products and pricing to be sufficiently competitive in the marketplace to increase the bank’s profits on both a short-term (current year) and long-term (three- to five-year) basis. Provides leadership for the department in the interest of overall growth and development of the financial institution.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Implements, develops, maintains state-of-the-art knowledge of the bank’s commercial & industrial lending (non-real estate) market, with respect to products, pricing and demand.
  2. Prompts the bank to analyze demographic, market and economic conditions on a continuing basis; reviews the bank’s projections of the market, economy and operating conditions, and recommends revisions in overall strategy to respond to changing conditions.
  3. Develops commercial & industrial lending plans and goals which align with the bank’s short-term (current year) and medium-term (five-year) plans.
  4. Monitors the commercial & industrial loan origination mix to optimize yield, quality and credit risk.
  5. Recommends proposed and reviews existing commercial & industrial loan products to ensure they are marketable, competitive and optimally profitable.
  6. Recommends pricing to ensure commercial & industrial loan products are marketable, competitive and optimally profitable.
  7. Develops lending opportunities, and qualifies and initiates loans to borrowers.
  8. Identifies and recommends loan delivery channels which may expand the bank’s ability to provide marketable, competitive and optimally profitable loans.
  9. Recommends changes in commercial & industrial lending policies and practices to improve the bank’s competitiveness and profitability.
  10. As a member of the bank’s loan committee, shares responsibility for assessing and approving or disapproving loans, consistent with the bank’s short-term (current year) and medium-term (five-year) plans.
  11. Develops and implements programs to leverage on cross-selling relationship opportunities for the bank’s current and prospective customers.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  13. Coordinates with managers in other departments of the bank to facilitate that the most profitable customers are being targeted, needed products and services are being offered and/or developed, profitable markets are being focused on, and products are being marketed through approved channels.

The primary oversight responsibilities of the position include (but are not limited to):

  1. Oversees staff members to ensure they are following the bank’s commercial lending policies and practices.
  2. Manages the day-to-day activities of the bank’s commercial & industrial lending operation.

The primary managerial responsibilities of the position include (but are not limited to):

  1. Regularly evaluates the performance of the staff, and works with employees to develop their knowledge, skills, abilities and potential.
  2. Develops and/or reviews proposed expense budgets and operating plans for the commercial & industrial lending function, and manages the business to those plans.
  3. Ensures that commercial & industrial lending resources (e.g., staff, time, funds) are allocated consistent with the bank’s and the commercial & industrial lending function’s current year plan.
  4. Reviews operational performance relative to the approved budget and takes corrective action as needed.
  5. Develops or revises and implements improved policies and procedures to increase employee productivity in the department.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

College Degree or education (or a combination of education and experience) equivalent to an undergraduate degree.

Experience:

Minimum of 8 years progressively responsible commercial & industrial asset-based (non-real estate) experience required. Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory/management role.

Excellent verbal/written communication skills.

Good organizational and sales skills required.

Thorough knowledge of commercial & industrial loan product lines.

Extensive knowledge of commercial & industrial underwriting requirements and procedures required.

Goal oriented individual – displaying self-motivation and initiative.

Excellent teamwork skills required.

Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software required.

Strong customer service skills required.
