Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Utility Worker to join our team in Pacific Grove, CA. This role involves a variety of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of water systems and infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing work areas, operating tools and equipment, and performing maintenance duties to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare work areas, including setting up barricades, fencing, and traffic cones to ensure safety and proper access.
  • Break pavement using a jackhammer or other methods as needed for repairs or installations.
  • Load and unload boxes, pipes, fittings, and other equipment; dig trenches using shovels or other tools based on conditions.
  • Install or maintain pipes and fittings, trim as necessary, and backfill trenches. Build rough forms for cement work as required.
  • Act as a flagman to direct traffic safely around work areas.
  • Occasionally perform various types of concrete work and make tie-ins.
  • Repair waterline breaks and leaks, work on services, and maintain fire hydrants.
  • Operate valves, maintain plant equipment including pumps, piping, storage tanks, and buildings.
  • Enter data related to work performed into databases or systems as required.
  • Perform other similar work as assigned to satisfactorily complete job requirements.

Tools and Equipment:

  • Tools Used: iPad, Tablet, computer, Mapcall, shovels, jackhammer, picks, digging bars, cement power saw, clay spade, wrenches, and other hand tools.
  • Equipment Used: Trucks, forklift, loader, water pumps, air compressors, cement mixer, and other equipment necessary for the job.

Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Knowledge of basic equipment and materials used in utility work. Familiarity with database technology is preferred.
  • Skills: Ability to follow oral and written instructions, possess normal physical and mechanical ability. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift/move over 100 pounds.
  • Licensing: Must possess a valid California Driver's License. Class B or Class A is desired.
