TOUR COORDINATORDepartment: PROGRAMS & PARTNERSHIPS
Location: SEATTLE, WA, WITH REQUIRED TRAVEL THROUGHOUT WA STATE
FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPT
Position Status: SEASONAL, PART TIME
Position Location: 20% REMOTE-POSSIBLE/80% ONSITE OR TRAVELING
Salary Range: $25/hour
Reports to: Associate Director of Youth Programs
 POSITION SUMMARYThe Tour Coordinator supports all aspects of the School Opera Tour production, including serving as the stage manager for the production. The coordinator will be responsible for logistics of the tour, including rehearsals and for managing all production aspects for performances. Each spring, the School Opera Tour is scheduled to tour throughout the State of Washington from February through May, with additional performances scheduled in community spaces and parks during the summer months. Must be able to work evenings, weekends and occasionally travel out of town with the tour which includes overnight stays.

The majority of work in this position will take place from January 2025 through May 2025, with additional work in June and July 2025. The Coordinator will be required to attend tour rehearsals in person at the Seattle Opera Center February 6th through 12th, 2025.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Work collaboratively with creative team and Associate Director of Youth Programs to plan tour rehearsal schedules, send daily calls, notes, and other important communications to appropriate individuals.
  • Create and maintain detailed production documentation, including Props List, Cue-To-Cue, rehearsal and performance reports, and other documentation as required.
  • Prepare and support all rehearsals.
  • Work closely with the Production department to coordinate all technical production needs, and communicate any production-related issues or repairs required.
  • Safely drive the tour van to and from each off-site performance location.
  • Load/unload the touring van for each School Opera Tour performance with assistance from the performers and set up all necessary sound equipment, scenic pieces, costume racks, and props, etc.
  • Launder all tour costumes.
  • Attend all School Opera Tour production and planning meetings.

EDUCATION:
  • Knowledge of opera and/or arts education preferred
RELATED EXPERIENCE:
  • At least 2 years of stage management experience, including in an education setting.
  • Experience working with young people and touring experience desired.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
  • Must be comfortable and confident driving up to 150 miles in a day, in a large vehicle with other passengers.
  • Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, issues of social justice and racial equity
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required
  • The ability to read music or follow a score strongly desired.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:
  • Experience operating body mics and sound equipment strongly desired.
  • Experience driving cargo trucks, multi-passenger vans or equivalent a plus

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; balance; bend and reach with hands and arms; use feet to operate foot pedal operation; and talk or hear. Frequently required to sit, stoop, kneel, squat, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
This role requires the operation of a large vehicle in typical Pacific Northwest winter and spring weather conditions, in both daylight and darkness.Work Environment:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exposed to conditions expected in an indoor office and performance venue, including florescent lights, shared HVAC, The noise level in the work environment can range from typical office environment level to high-volume singing in times of rehearsals and performances. BENEFITS:
This part time, seasonal role is eligible for the following benefits:
  • Sick time accrued on a pro-rated basis (1 hour per 40 hours worked)
  • Paid accommodations and per diem for assigned overnight travel
  • Paid parking at Seattle Center for rehearsals and parking available in the lower loading dock when the tour van is on the road.
