The Director of Law Student Affairs will serve as a member of the Office of Law Student Affairs team, with primary responsibilities including program development and facilitation, student leadership development, and general student support for in person and online students within the School of Law. This position also encourages students within the School of Law to develop and maintain a rewarding, healthy and holistic law school experience while developing as a professional.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cultivates various aspects of the law student experience, including promoting student engagement among students and coordinating opportunities to engage law students in university life
  • Manages logistics and training for Law Registered Student Organizations (RSO), including developing and facilitating trainings, updating Law RSO processes and procedures, advising Law RSOs about event planning and risk management
  • Receives, investigates, and resolves inquiries and complaints from students, faculty, and other stakeholders concerning the Office of Law Student Affairs
  • Serves as co-advisor to the Student Bar Association
  • Develops and facilitates student programming, including programs related to well-being and inclusive excellence
  • Plans, develops, and supports improvement projects; develops initiatives to address repetitive concerns
  • Collaborates University-level stakeholders to implement University-wide student affairs initiatives
  • Serves as a contact and referral source for students with respect to a variety of matters, including School of Law and University policies and procedures, and services relating to counseling, academic support, and special accommodations
  • Supports the student conduct process for alleged violations of the Code of Student Conduct and other student disciplinary issues
  • Coordinates assessment planning for the Office of Law Student Affairs
  • Supports required programmatic accreditation processes and offers monitoring services for key areas
  • Supports and manages the coordination and management of other student-focused event including Family Day and commencement
  • Supports and develops effective communication campaigns about events, deadlines, and opportunities
  • Supports School of Law exam administration and analyzes pass rate data
  • Supports the implementation of ADA accommodations and Title IX academic adjustments.
  • Hires, guides, evaluates, and supervise student employees
  • Serves on assigned committees, boards or commissions and may be assigned to perform as part of an investigative team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required; A Master's or terminal degree in education, educational administration, student affairs, or a related field OR a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school is preferred
  • 1 to 3 years of student advising experience, or similar experience providing student support in a higher education setting required
  • Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish with the ability to understand and to make one's self understood to Spanish speaking individuals)
  • Prior experience in advising law, graduate, or professional students; prior experience in law school administration preferred;
  • Experience with handling the implementation of ADA accommodations highly desirable.
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; an ability to work effectively with communities across the university.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate intermediate proficiency in MS Office/MS 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Teams, Zoom, or similar online/virtual meeting platforms; proficient in graphic design software (Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, etc.)
  • Must have high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; display solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have strong self-judgment abilities, and use discretion to complete work assignments. Initiative is frequently required to complete work assignments, including policy interpretation and individual work priorities.
  • · Must have the ability to demonstrate a capacity for leadership, the desire to lead and motivate a team of instructors and administrative personnel, and the commitment to work collaboratively with a diverse and dynamic community.
  • Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, evenings and weekends during peak times and for special programs, projects, events and to travel as needed. Be available, as necessary, for day and night appointments and programming to serve the needs of both day and evening students; and
  • Must be prepared and willing to provide leadership in a Catholic and Marianist institution committed to fostering quality education in a family spirit; the pursuit of service, justice, and peace; and the preparation for adaptation and change, while encouraging each person in their own way in their formation in faith.
  • Understanding of various laws impacting student affairs, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, etc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day-to-day business.
  • While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
