Position Overview

 The Senior Engineer will support the Department of Homeland Security Real Property Office. The position will provide program management support and engineering technical expertise to support DHS’s efforts that enhance oversight of the Components’ asset
management programs at the Department level, and support initiatives within the Department to increase Unity of Effort through the integration of mission support activities.


Responsibilities

  • Concept design development, preparation of construction documents, and assist the Real Property office with construction administration. Researches, plans, designs, and assist the  Real Property office with administering building projects for facilities, applying knowledge of architectural design, construction detailing, construction procedures, zoning and building codes, and building materials and systems.
  • Working with the program team, analyze DHS Business processes for conformance with ISO, OMB, GSA and Component engineering, configuration management, information technology, and financial policy. Assist in the communication of goals and objectives (“as is” and “to be”) of business processes with internal and external stakeholders. Provide recommendations to improve business processes while ensuring those processes align to Departmental and OMB goals to result in clear direction to Components and government-wide policy improvements.
  • Participate in the full update of the DHS Design, Engineering and Construction Guide


Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience with the design and construction of new Sensitive Compartment Information Facilities (SCIF), and renovations of existing facilities.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 12 years minimum experience and 2 years of DHS experience supporting engineering tasks on special projects.
  • Professional Engineering certification required.
  • Experience performing multiple advanced and complex tasks in the interdisciplinary field of engineering and engineering management focusing on how to design and integrate complex projects over their lifecycles.
  • Experience ensuring all concept plan documents are compliant with DHS Design, Engineering and Construction guidelines, regulations, and other mandatory requirements.


Work Environment 

The majority of the work effort can be provided remotely; however, the Senior Engineer must be able to travel to the DHS Real Property Office in Springfield, VA when needed. As such, candidates must be local to the DC Metro Area.
