SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to assist GRTC’s Finance Department drive execution through a variety of tasks ranging from special projects, to recurring monthly and quarterly closing tasks. The intern will have an interest in the following:

  • Hands-on experience regarding the various components of an accounting department
  • Actively participate in the Finance Department’s quest for continuous improvement, and ingenuity, in alignment with departmental objectives.
  • Developing accounting skills and overall business acumen
  • Access to management, building relationships with our leadership and other associates outside of accounting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Supports the GRTC Finance Department by:

  • Assist with accounts payables and receivables.
  • Assist with employee expense reimbursement.
  • Accounting Research and Reconciliations as assigned.
  • Assist with monthly closing, when appropriate
  • Analyze different functional area KPIs.
  • Utilize word, spreadsheet applications, and scanning programs to provide administrative support to department.
  • Preparation of Journal Entries as assigned.
  • User Management Access review for financial and technical system
  • Perform general office duties including scanning, copying, data entry, and filing.
  • Documentation regarding processes and technology systems
  • With appropriate direction, document different levels of controls.
  • Special project – performing industry research, to compare and analyze relevant external information or current business trends that may be pertinent to GRTC.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Accounting, business, and finance skills
  • Mathematical skills that would be gained from a typical undergraduate accounting, business, or finance curriculum.
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills required.
  • Intermediate level of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel required (i.e. filtering, v-lookups, pivot tables, subtotals, shortcuts)
  • Capacity to keep track of multiple ongoing tasks.
  • Excellent data entry, data cleaning, and attention to detail
  • Keen sense of Integrity and adherence to all prescribed ethical guidelines, including confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet researching
  • Prior experience in scanning documents using Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Takes initiative and works independently.
  • Cooperates and works well with others.
  • Expresses opinions and innovative ideas
  • Adapts to change.

Education and/or Experience

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate business degree, (accounting preferred but not required) with an understanding of basic accounting terminology.
  • Experience in a public or non-profit organization preferred but not required.
  • History of achievement and aptitude demonstrated by a strong GPA, and/or other recognitions such as scholarships, awards, and honor societies.
