Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Mini House Residential Program is actively looking to fill the support staff positions in the swing-shift (3pm-11pm) and grave-yard shift (11 pm-8 am) schedules.

Position Purpose:

The Support Staff position is located at the Mini House Residential Treatment Program for women and their children in South Los Angeles. This position requires a flexible work schedule as needed for the 24-hour residential program. The Support Staff is an essential position working towards the client’s success in residential treatment and supporting the clinical team to deliver services. This position upholds the JWCH mission to improve the health status and wellbeing of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles County.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for working collaboratively with treatment team to serve program clients’ needs.
  2. Proficient in communication among co-workers, supervisor, director and clients.
  3. Prepare thorough shift report and send via email to staff daily.
  4. Alert Supervisor of concerning client and program information in a timely manner (at time of incident or at end of shift) and then document in an email.
  5. Complete Incident Reports per Support Staff Manual.
  6. Screen visitors and know who is on the property at all time.
  7. Facilitate daily New Client Orientation Group, Program Rules or Wind Down group.
  8. Co- Facilitate New Visitor Orientation Groups.
  9. Orient new clients to the program (i.e. reading new client handbook together, introducing client to all staff, touring the facility / property).
  10. Inventory new client’s property, medication and other items with client and staff signatures.
  11. Log medication under the supervision of medical assistant or nurse.
  12. Utilizes and logs new client admit checklist, and exit checklist.
  13. Escorts clients to groups on time and prepares group room to the facilitators direction.
  14. Regular client Rounds (review who is on the property and who is out on appointments).
  15. Oversee meal time to ensure orderly conduct among clients, and assist chef.
  16. Assist with meal prep and serving as needed.
  17. Present with a thorough knowledge of, and sensitivity for the needs of the vulnerable clients served.
  18. Conduct urinalysis testing for client as needed, and tracking when clients have been drug tested.
  19. Participate in community outreach activities (walking in the neighbor and driving).
  20. Provide clerical support as needed, including filing and data entry.
  21. Walk the property regularly throughout the day for environmental checks.
  22. Conduct regular room checks for cleanliness, and contraband.
  23. Complete daily program checklist (i.e. repairs needed, room checks) and submit to designee.
  24. Walk to the park, grocery store, and other close by locations, with clients.
  25. De-escalate clients, as needed using trauma responsive care.
  26. Interface professionally with client’s families, and outside agencies while maintaining client confidentiality.
  27. Complete special projects as assigned during work shifts.
  28. Discusses all patient information only with appropriate program personnel when related to the care being provided.
  29. Maintains confidentiality for all documents that contain patient identifier information.
  30. Observes and respects confidentiality of information in regards to fellow employees.
  31. Completes addiction and cultural competency trainings effectively and efficiently, and other required trainings each fiscal year. Utilize knowledge gain in the workplace.
  32. Initiates and presents positive solutions to problems.
  33. Demonstrates effective working relations and works effectively as part of the team to facilitate the organization’s ability to meet goals and objectives.
  34. Demonstrates a willingness to accommodate requirements or changing priorities in the workplace.
  35. Other Duties as Assigned

Requirements:

  1. Knowledge of the alcohol and substance abuse field.
  2. Knowledge of de-escalation skills, motivational interviewing and trauma informed care.
  3. High school diploma or GED.
  4. Two years of sobriety if in recovery.
  5. Computer skills (e-mail and Microsoft Programs).
  6. Good oral and written communication skills.
  7. Good documentation skills.
  8. Ability to work within a team structure.
  9. Adhere to Department of Public Health safety guidelines (currently mask covering and vaccine).
  10. Bilingual English and Spanish (preferred).
  11. Register as AOD Counselor (preferred).
