Responsibilities

While Mainspring is growing rapidly to scale production of its linear generators, Failure Analysis is a crucial element to the success of our mission and this role is a key enabler. We use Failure Analysis (FA) results to improve our design and manufacturing processes as well as the ones of our suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline

  • 3+ years of FA Engineering experience in a fast paced and high growth environment (industrial and/or automotive is a plus)

  • The position is onsite at our Menlo Park location

Must-Have

  • You are passionate about FA because figuring out the string of why(s) something failed brings you joy.

  • You have successfully root caused a broad range of complex electrical components and assemblies using failure analysis methods and influenced design iterations to correct the issues.

  • You can thrive in structured and unstructured environments and are not dissuaded at the prospect of making hard decisions about what is important and urgent against a backdrop of limited resources.

  • You are proficient with a broad range of tools like oscilloscopes, DMMs, spectrum analyzers, microscopes and you have used them to deliver objective results.

  • You follow a safety protocol when operating around electrical systems because you understand the hazards and associated risks and how “invisible” they can be.

What you will do

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with the X-functional stakeholders that are the recipients of FA work product.

  • Develop a closed loop system with Field Operations, Electrical Engineering and Supplier Quality ensuring that the FA results are recorded and communicated through.

  • Create metrics to help X-functional stakeholders focus on necessary corrective actions of electrical failures.

Like to have

  • You have used command prompt, python/BASH scripts to obtain relevant data from test equipment.

  • You are comfortable with mixed signal and power electronics and you understand the physics behind cause and effect of failures.

  • You can quickly toggle between a PCBA schematics, gerber file, component placement and the actual board to trace a signal and you can find a way to probe it.

  • You keep detailed notes on debug process

  • You create test fixturing to assist in root cause analysis, such as jumper cables and breadboards.

  • You have experience creating and improving metrics reporting and use data to drive change

The Bay Area salary for this role is $122k-$155k base + pre-IPO stock options + benefits. This position is on-site in Menlo Park, CA. The salary will be adjusted based on the experience of the employee.
