Support Specialist-Education Programs

@Orchard LLC is actively seeking to engage an experienced Education Program Support Specialist in support of NOAA’s Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument (PMNM). The work is located at the PMNM site in Honolulu, HI. The selected individual will complete support projects and related tasks at the Honolulu, HI, site, or at offsite and remote locations as required.
As the Program Support Specialist, you will:
- Assist in the development and implementation of educational programming for PMNM.
- Work with government, community, and academic partners to coordinate, and facilitate educational activities across Hawai‘i.
- Assist with other PMNM education and outreach programs and events, including development, support, and management of the PMNM educational curriculum projects and products.
- Ensure integration of PMNM educational activities with other Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS) and managing partner efforts throughout the state, especially with ONMS staff at Mokupāpapa Discovery Center (MDC) in Hilo, Hawaii; on Maui; and on Kaua‘i.
- Coordinate outreach and education events with PMNM staff and partners, including RAC members. Work as the primary coordinator for all PMNM-related outreach events.
- Coordinate with other NOAA line offices for collaborative outreach and education events.
- Develop outreach materials for PMNM as a part of a team. Track outreach materials and supplies for outreach events.
- Coordinate public engagement of the Reserve Advisory Council (RAC) in site planning and other activities identified in the PMNM Management Plan.
- Assist site leadership and the RAC in planning and carrying out quarterly RAC meetings, and ad hoc meetings, when necessary, including but not limited to, developing draft agenda, arranging RAC travel, meeting logistics, preparing draft minutes, acting as primary conduit for RAC inquiries, and inquiries regarding the RAC, etc.
- Facilitate education and outreach activities for PMNM across Hawaii.
Your background will include the following.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Education, Teaching, Hawaiian Studies, Biology, Communications or a related field.
- Three to five (3-5) years of experience in formal or informal education. This includes experience in conducting workshops, evaluating education programs, and working in communities with diverse cultural and/or socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Working knowledge of the natural history of the Hawaiian Archipelago, including the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.
- Extensive knowledge of Hawaii’s marine environment, flora and fauna.
- Knowledge and experience of Hawaiian culture and history. Knowledge of academic standards and assessments, especially the Common Core State Standards (in language arts and math) and the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards III (in science and social studies).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Skilled in desktop editing (Adobe InDesign), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), website editing, online collaboration tools, image and video editing, and good general computer operation skills.
- Working knowledge of basic budgeting procedures.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain the license throughout the duration of employment.
