Accounting Specialist - Galaxy Vets Healthcare System, Inc


We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist with 3 to 5 years of experience to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. This role involves handling various accounting tasks, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This is a remote position and will report to the VP of Finance. 



The Position

Essential Job Functions: The following are the essential duties and responsibilities required for this position. The candidate must be able to perform all the following duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:


General Ledger Management:

  • Prepare and post journal entries accurately and timely.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.

Accounts Payable and Receivable:

  • Process and review invoices for appropriate documentation and approval.
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable transactions.
  • Manage vendor and customer accounts, ensuring timely payments and collections.

Financial Reporting:

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and variances.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting processes.

Compliance and Audit:

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and accounting standards.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and information.

Other Duties:

  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of accounting systems and procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business operations and financial decision-making.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis and projects as assigned.
  • Participating in ongoing education opportunities to learn about industry trends and developments, current financial legislation, and company policies and procedures.

  • Perform administrative and other tasks as needed.



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience with accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, QBO, NetSuite, Oracle) is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position. Monday – Friday
  • Remote within the Continental US; preference for Central or Eastern time zones.
  • May require occasional overtime during peak periods such as month-end and year-end closings.
