Senior Utilities Engineer

GENERAL SUMMARY

Supervises, plans, schedules, conducts, and/or coordinate all phases of Utility engineering projects.

Immediately report injuries for prompt diagnosis and treatment. 3) Make regular suggestions for safety process improvements to support continuous safety improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Manages departmental initiatives and oversees the execution of identified Utility improvements. Assists department management in strategic planning and the development of programs and initiatives.
  • Plans, directs, and completes concurrent, complex design and construction projects. Applies both conventional and emerging engineering practices and techniques to work that may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. Directs staff and contractors on construction activities that are outside of the standard specifications.
  • Reviews, inspects, and/or coordinates construction contract document enforcement including shop drawing review and preparation of field changes, change orders, and pay estimates.
  • Prepares and professionally seals detailed construction plans and technical specifications, reports, and studies.
  • Assists with departmental management activities, including but not limited to, interviewing and hiring new employees, performance management, merit increases, departmental meetings, budget preparation, specific project management, department’s public relations, and leave approval. Provides direct staff supervision as assigned.
  • Collaborates with and coordinates the work of consultants.
  • Reviews, comments on, and develops department policy and equipment needs; proposes process improvements for development in the Utilities service areas. Participates in departmental and organizational committees.
  • Prepares estimates, monitors complex and/or multiple project budgets, and makes recommendations concerning budgetary status and/or adjustment.
  • Analyzes engineering data, develops effective solutions, and prepares technical reports.
  • Performs related work as required.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

This position may directly supervises Superintendents, Foremen, Engineers and/or Operators.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, or a related discipline, and six (6) years of progressively responsible engineering experience in all phases of engineering including analysis, drafting, surveying, design, and construction; or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Professional Engineer License

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.

  • Wastewater collection and treatment systems; wastewater construction
  • Project management and personnel management
  • Microsoft Office Suite
