JOB SUMMARY:

The Designer III is responsible for developing conceptual designs, reviewing drawings, and providing support to the engineering team. This position designs project-specific items to be manufactured by our Company and other companies. This position will facilitate internal workflow, as required. This position collaborates in person and remotely with Project Management and Engineering professionals to develop design concepts and engineering documents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job description represents only the primary areas of responsibility; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.

  • Receives, reviews, and interprets project requirements and design information including but not limited to Scope of Work (SOW), Engineering Specification Reviews (ESR), Calculations, Placement Sketch, Construction Notes, Controls Component Spec (& Control’s location on vessel), and Internals order forms to complete designs.
  • Provides a timely and accurate response to all inquiries.
  • Interacts closely with both Project Engineers and Manufacturing Personnel to meet customer needs.
  • Produces 3D Parts, Assemblies, and Layouts created in CAD, General Arrangement (GA) and Fabrication drawings, Bills of Materials, and prototype designs to support customer requirements, using Pro/E Creo (version 5 or later) for drafting and design purposes.
  • Makes necessary corrections to existing drawings following quality review process.
  • Determines appropriate methods to create drawings using either a CAD template customized to the client’s requirements, a standard template designed for the specific type of work, or by updating an existing CAD file.
  • Reviews drawings from other drafters to ensure alignment with scoping and corporate drafting standards.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

An associate degree in Drafting or CAD Technology with 3-5 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above (8 years of demonstrated experience in a mechanical engineering field in lieu of degree). Working knowledge & experience with Pro/E Creo (version 5 or later) is required. Familiarity with Creo Sheetmetal design is a plus. Prior experience in the Engineering design, and ASME Pressure vessel manufacturing industry is helpful. Have a basic understanding of controls and instrumentation, ability to take concept to design. Have a basic understanding of welding processes, callouts, and applications.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Creo (Pro Engineer) Software required (version 8 or higher preferred) – Knowledge of assembly, part, sheet metal, and drawing modules required. Experience with Advanced Assembly, layouts (Pro Notebook), and Pro Program a plus.
  • Microsoft Office Suite; ERP systems, ADP, Epicor is beneficial. Familiarity with EPM tools (e.g., Hyperion, TM1, etc.) preferred.
