This role involves the management and execution of shipping operations for hazardous materials. The specialist will ensure compliance with all applicable regulations for the transportation of hazardous materials and provide expertise in safely handling, labeling, and shipping these materials.
Duties and Responsibilities
Hazardous Materials Management
- Ensure all hazardous materials are properly labeled, packaged, and documented according to DOT, IATA, and IMDG regulations.
- Stay updated on changes to hazardous materials regulations and implement necessary changes in procedures.
- Coordinate with production and warehouse teams to ensure safe storage and handling of hazardous materials.
- Oversee the receipt of materials, ensuring that inbound shipments are in compliance with all safety regulations.
- Unload inbound trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other necessary equipment while ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
- Prepare hazardous and non hazardous materials for outbound shipping in compliance with customer-specific expectations and general ISO policies/procedures.
- Load outbound shipments onto trucks with strict adherence to safety guidelines.
- Assist in light chemical production activities, including repackaging, relabeling, and blending/mixing of chemicals, ensuring all activities comply with ISO standards.
- Zero tolerance for safety violations.
- Report all safety incidents and near misses promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all safety instructions and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory.
- Participate in inventory audits and ensure that all materials are accounted for and properly stored.
- Ensure all shipping documentation for hazardous materials is accurate and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies as needed for inspections and compliance checks.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five years experience in hazardous materials management or a related field.
- Certification in hazardous materials handling (e.g., DOT Hazardous Materials Certificate).
- Possess a fundamental belief in the importance of planning, measuring, and reporting to improve.
- Qualified to operate a forklift/scissor lift.
- Experience working with ERP systems/inventory management systems.
- Must be capable of lifting 25kg unassisted.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Continually required to stand.

- Continually required to lift/push/carry items up to 25kg unassisted.
- Frequently work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals (with appropriate PPE)
