SUMMARY

Under Director of Engineering supervision, The Controls Engineer applies best programming practices and processes to accommodate the execution of Daedalus projects. This role shall include coordinating with a diverse array of project stakeholders, including project managers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, technicians, and customers. Documents will be produced at each stage of the project and the Controls Engineer is responsible for ensuring that they conform to Daedalus standard requirements.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage and coordinate multiple projects programming tasks to ensure they are completed on time
  • Organize and plan project programming tasks and schedules
  • Manage programming duties in accordance with best practices and standards of the company
    • Complete and maintain the Controls Workbook for projects
    • Develop and design required PLC programming
    • Develop and design required HMI programming
    • Develop and design required Robot programming
    • Assist in collaboration across engineering and operations departments to ensure projects are completed successfully
    • Optimize project deliverables and schedule
    • Work with proposal teams to develop cost estimates for programming duties

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL SET

  • Demonstrable problem-solving positive-minded experience and skills
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, informational technology, or related fields
  • Knowledge of programming methodologies such as sequential state best practices
  • Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
  • Proficiency in programming software tools, including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc, Roboguide (non-negotiable required), and KUKA applications
  • Proficiency in development of vision applications, including Cognex and Keyence
  • Proficiency in programming robotics and servo motion
  • Ability to travel on occasion

Education and/or Experience

Equivalent to graduation from high school and three years of experience in the commissioning and setup of a variety of industrial equipment, structures, and automation equipment.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and mechanical instructions, and assembly manuals. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, other departments' managers, customers, and technical representatives.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundaments of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to recognize, mitigate, and correct unsafe conditions.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear in person or on the telephone. Hearing is frequently required for equipment operation analysis. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to smell, using odors to determine process or equipment problems.

The employee could regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


COMPENSATION & TRAVEL FREQUENCY

The compensation range is approximately $80,000 to $120,000 per year, depending on the education and experience of the candidate. This position is exempt and will not be eligible for overtime pay.


The travel frequency is approximately 10-15% per year. Most of the work that is performed will be within 2 hours driving time of Daedalus Industrial located in Easley, South Carolina. However, it is possible that daily or weekly travel may be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; and possibly outdoor weather conditions.


The noise level in the work environment, especially at a customer project site, could be moderate with occasional exposure to loud equipment.


May be required to be available to work overtime and off-shift hours, including weekends, on a project or emergency basis.
