The Facilities Coordinator is a member of the operations team at Chicago Collegiate and is directly accountable to the Director of School Operations for executing on important operational responsibilities. The Custodian’s role is to maintain a safe and clean school environment, in order to ensure that students, staff, and families can focus on achieving dramatic academic growth and demonstrating the character traits and intellectual habits needed to succeed in the college of their choice, lead in their communities and change the world.

The Custodian must embody Chicago Collegiate’s core values of Excellence, Courage, Pride, Grit and Zest.


The ideal start date for this position is August 12, 2024. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Meets with vendors, contractors and inspectors when necessary.
  • Check and respond to emails throughout the day for maintenance and repair requests.
  • Assist Building Engineer and Facilities Technician as needed.
  • Ensuring spaces are kept clean throughout the building during the day when students are on premises
  • Monitor facility supply inventory to submit order requests
  • Taking out trash
  • Wiping down surfaces
  • Sweeping and mopping floors and vacuuming carpets
  • Washing and sanitizing toilets and sinks and restocking bathroom disposables
  • Cleaning up occasional messes created by large spills or a sick student
  • Overseeing cleanliness of the servery and cafeteria during and after student meal service
  • Maintaining outer premises by watering plants, cleaning entrances, updating signage, etc.
  • Performing maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, building furniture, minor leaks etc.)
  • Reporting major damages and overseeing repairs
  • Securing facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting up the alarm
  • Unpacking UPS, USPS, and FedEx deliveries, and delivering items to classrooms/offices
  • Undertaking occasional custodial and janitorial tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs, etc.)


Qualifications:


  • High school diploma preferred but not required
  • Proven experience as a facilities coordinator or in a similar role highly preferred
  • An unwavering belief that all students can achieve at the highest academic levels, regardless of demographics, and a desire to contribute to that goal
  • A strong work ethic and a passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture
  • Self-starter with an ability to see what needs to happen and take care of it, without being told
  • A high standard for cleanliness, along with the attention to detail and conscientiousness that will ensure those standards are met
  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
  • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
  • Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices
  • Very good physical condition and strength; ability to move boxes, furniture, and other items, and to set up and break down spaces such as classrooms and the cafeteria (sometimes more than 50 pounds)
  • Ability to work evening and early morning hours required; also, some weekend hours required

Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience. Please note while this is a full-time role.
