Job DescriptionJob Description

The Test Engineer will be responsible for product validation testing to ensure the highest quality products are created. This position will use product characteristics or customer requirements to determine validation objectives. This role will develop validation plans and coordinate the implementation or scheduling of testing. The Test Engineer will procure or devise lab validation test stations or other test fixtures and equipment, prepare samples and equipment, conduct tests, and analyze resultant data to determine whether systems or processes have met validation criteria or to identify root causes of problems. This position will prepare detailed reports of the test results. Best practices for safety are mandatory for the highly adaptable individual with experience in basic electro-mechanical and pneumatic actuators, controls, and sensing.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Validation Testing – Prepare samples and equipment, ensure all systems are running according to the necessary specifications and complying with industry accepted standards. Coordinate with other personnel or departments who will be affected by testing. Compose detailed reports by compiling, categorizing or tabulating data for analyzing and evaluating against acceptance criteria, documenting results, and maintaining records for later recovery. Contract and manage outside testing services when necessary.
  • Testing Tools and Equipment – Develop and build application specific testing apparatus using mechanical and electrical tools to fabricate and assemble, and pneumatic and electrical hardware to control. Safely operate all equipment used for testing. Prepare justification for new equipment, adjust equipment or processes that require improvement, decide if equipment needs to be repaired or entirely replaced, coordinate preventive maintenance, and oversee the inventory of validation tools and supplies. Maintain an organized and clean workspace, with proper tool management and maintenance.
  • Testing Standards – Interpret validation test requirements from design validation plan test requests. Capture test requests and reports on Test Log for scheduling and managing, saving each document to an established folder. Establish and/or follow industry and customer specific standards to develop protocols, methods, and procedures. Evaluate information to determine applicability and compliance with standards.
  • Vehicle Installation – Perform on-vehicle installation of components and sub-systems to proper specifications for fit, form, and function that meet design intent. Bed Cover installation and fit-up is common, however will also include other accessory products. Includes light electrical work for harness routing, power hook-up to battery (and ground), utilization of hydraulic vehicle lift or floor jack/stands.
  • Customer Interaction - Work with the customers both internal and external directly as the main interface for the project.
  • Safety Precautions – Must always utilize best practices for personal safety (and that of others). Utilize 5S principals. Recommend equipment changes and additions to increase safety and productivity.
  • Problem Solving - Possess strong problem-solving skills. Lead and engage in trouble shooting with the team to develop options for success during complex situations.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, with 3+ years of work experience in a related field.
  • 2+ years experience devising automated lab validation test stations preferred.

Required Licenses

  • Valid government issued Driver’s License (shop truck and company vehicles).
  • Valid company issued Industrial Powered Truck License (upon successful completion of in-house training).

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, TEAMS, SharePoint).
  • Skilled in data acquisition and basic controller programming.
  • Ability to write, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Excellent verbal and written presentation skills.
  • Ability to attend to and conveying an understanding of comments and questions of others.
  • Skilled at using mathematics to apply arithmetic, geometry, and statistics to solve problems and report results.
  • Ability to think critically and interpret the meaning of information or data and how it may be used.
  • Ability to find solutions for or dealing proactively with work-related problems.

Travel

  • Must be able to travel locally (Metro-Detroit) routinely for short trips utilizing company vehicles, to support outside testing services (12-14 times/year), and domestically on a limited basis when requested (1-2 times per year). Local travel estimated to be
