Job DescriptionJob Description

General Position Summary: This person must be able to effectively plan and carry out a daily program designed to meet the physical and developmental needs of a group of children. This individual must be sensitive to the needs of individual children and relate well to both children and adults. It is important that this individual be a positive role model for children and aspires to assist children and families on a daily basis.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Implement and oversee that all health and safety guidelines per the Health Department and Licensing are followed (sanitize toys and disinfect surfaces such as table, chairs, shelves and counter-tops). Follow all employee/child hand-washing procedures.
  • Supervise Children at all times. Supervision includes awareness of and responsibility for the ongoing activity of each child. Teachers will supervise children at all times.
  • Interact and communicate with children in a respectful manner to which they can understand. When communicating with children you need to get down on their level and take time to listen to them.
  • Demonstrate physical, emotional, and intellectual competencies necessary to demonstrate good judgment when performing assigned responsibilities.
  • Planning and implementing activities that offer each child opportunities for physical and social development.
  • Communicate with families by completing daily notes, journals, emails, and conferences.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings so you can obtain training hours that are required annually
  • Responsible for all other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned.

Typical Decisions and/or Recommendations Made in This Position:

  • Execute health and safety protocols in all classroom environments, ex. handwashing throughout the day, model and redirect children on how to use equipment and materials safely, supervise children that are in your care (at all times), and notify administration of concerns of illness or injury of children in your care.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • This position involves a typically active classroom environment. Flexibility in transitioning from one task to another, regarding the needs of the classroom or program is important.
  • Light to Medium work:
  • Lifting: Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds,
  • Kneeling: Must be able to get and down off the floor when working with children.
  • Talking: Communicating with other staff and parents on a daily basis
  • Standing: Need to be able to stand for short periods of time through-out the day

Travel Requirements:

  • Some travel required, up to 5 %.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Active member of Roman Catholic parish community
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in an Early Childcare Center
  • English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Knowledge in Microsoft Word
  • Familiarity in planning and implementing weekly lesson plans
  • Classroom management in an Early Childhood Care setting

FLSA Designation: Exempt or Non-Exempt
