Seeking an Assistant Controller with a solid accounting background. Experience with accounting functions, principles, and systems desired. This role will report to the Controller and interface with ownership and the board. A background in agribusiness, manufacturing, supply chain, or public accounting strongly preferred, but open to other areas.

Position based in Santa Maria, CA. Prefer candidates who can commute to the area. Potential consideration for accounting professionals who are already very interested in moving to the Central Coast.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Controller is responsible for providing support to the Corporate Controller in managing the company's accounting and financial activities. The Assistant Controller will be a major contributor to the success of this rapidly evolving company and have the opportunity to implement and sharpen your own skills while working in a collaborative environment where integrity, trust, and the pursuit of excellence drive our culture and our success. Daily activities include overseeing and participating with a team in maintaining accounting records, recording journal entries, producing financial statements, overseeing the accounts receivable and accounts payable functions, and ensuring accounting systems are consistent with strong internal controls. This position reports directly to the Controller.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the timely completion of the monthly and annual closings of the general ledger and preparation of related financial statements and supporting analytical schedules.
  • Prepares and reviews entries to the general and subsidiary ledgers to ensure completeness, accuracy and compliance with the company's accounting principles.
  • Prepares and reviews supporting and analytical schedules to support the Company's financial reporting requirements.
  • Administers the preparation of interim, year-end, and comparative financial reports; performs and provides analysis of current results to prior periods and/or budget.
  • Prepares required schedules for periodic audit, tax and government reports and responds to inquiries as necessary.
  • Designs and implements improvements to existing systems, processes, and policies.
  • Coordinates the interim and year-end financial audits and periodic tax filings.
  • Manages the preparation of schedules and documents for the auditors and tax preparer.
    Oversee managerial/ cost accounting processes for farming operations.
  • Trains and supervises other accounting staff.
  • Stays current with developments, practice trends and regulations in the accounting profession.
  • Performs other accounting duties and projects, as required or directed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting or finance is required.
  • Experience working for an agricultural company is strongly preferred.
  • An ability to communicate/interact with people at all levels of the organization is essential
  • Strong Excel skills will be necessary to achieve
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
