What is this job?

The Bridge Program Teacher Assistant is a hands-on position that works with an instructional team consisting of a special education/general education teacher and other support staff assigned to the classroom or students. This individual provides instructional and behavioral support for the children in a designated classroom using research-based strategies under the day-to-day supervision of the special education or general education teacher. The Teacher Assistant will also assist the teacher with preparation and reinforcing of classroom instruction. This position may also deliver evidence-based programs designed for support staff under the direction of a teacher.

What is the Bridge Program?

The Bridge Program provides a safe haven and place of healing for recently hospitalized youth experiencing complex mental, emotional, and behavioral challenges. These youth have traditionally been stranded in hospital settings long after being medically cleared for release due to lack of beds available at behavioral health or psychiatric provider.

Board of Child Care (BCC) is not a federal or state agency. It is an independent not-for-profit organization that serves over 1,000 children annually across 12 locations. You would join about 800 teammates across DC, MD, PA, and WV that empower youth and their families to flourish within their community.


Is there a sign-on bonus?

Yes Selected applicants who are hired and pass BCC's new hire orientation are eligible for a sign-on bonus of $500. This would be paid in two installments. BCC's recruiters can explain more about this during the interview.

What does this job do specifically?

  • Provides individualized behavior and academic supports as prescribed in the Individualized Education Program, Behavior Intervention Plan or as directed by administration.
  • Collects data toward specific goals and objectives in the prescribed manner, utilizing the required format.
  • Assists the teacher(s) and educational coordinator in preparing for and implementing supplemental aids and services along with individualized instruction which support the Individual Education Program (IEP) goals/objectives and other school programming
  • Supports instructional programs and student activities by maintaining a high level of engagement while interacting with students, leading small groups, and completing other instructional tasks as requested by the teacher.
  • Works collaboratively with team members to effectively implement student Individualized Education Programs.
  • Consults supervisor or behavioral team regarding individualized behavioral and instructional strategies appropriate for students
  • Accepts guidance and direction from assigned classroom teacher, while supporting planning, instruction and IEP implementation.
  • Adheres to all polices, practices and expectations for a professional and learning environment.
  • Maintains accurate and complete data collection, records, files, etc. as required by Strawbridge policies and federal, state and local laws.
  • Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings, Interdisciplinary Meetings, staff/teacher meetings, Planning Conferences, in-service training programs, etc.
  • Employs provided electronic tools for attendance (e.g. Jupiter Grades), leave reporting (e.g. ADP), etc.
  • Communicates respectfully with students when academic and behavioral problems arise
  • Demonstrates knowledge of students’ Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and consistently implements Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Maintains a safe physical environment conducive to learning.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with cultural patterns existing within a community that may affect the behavior of students.
  • Establishes relationships with students on a group and individual basis, gaining their confidence and trust and imparting a sense of security.
  • Ensures a safe, clean, attractive and engaging classroom.
  • Fosters tolerance and a sense of community in classrooms, modeling and explicitly teaching acceptance and appreciation of others.
  • Monitors students in hallways, cafeteria, specials and all areas inside and outside the classroom.
  • Maintains confidentiality by keeping all information about children and their families in strictest confidence.
  • Fulfills the standards of professionalism including appropriate dress, attendance, personal device use, and timeliness.
  • Assist children with personal hygiene, meals, and other activities of daily living as needed.
  • Promptly responds to emails, as well as submits all required paperwork by the designated deadline assigned by administration. Deadlines must be met by 5:00pm on the designated due date.

Where is this job based? Is this an in-person position?

This is a full-time, in-person position. Based out of our Baltimore, Maryland Campus.

Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, hours consistent with school operational hours. This position is essential during inclement weather.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Psychology or a related field

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Psychology or a related field with at least one year of experience in education, clinical mental health or related field

Other Job Requirements

  • This position requires you to drive BCC vehicles. Must have a valid, active, driver's license with less than 7 points.
  • Background check and drug screen required.
  • Ability to provide supporting documentation of COVID Vaccination records or proper documentation in lieu of.
