STEED INDUSTRIES IS HIRING FOR 4 POSITIONS


Foreman typically works for construction companies to ensure the productivity of daily operations. They work closely with the Superintendent for deadlines, specific tasks, and safety protocols to enforce among workers. A Foreman’s job is to direct an onsite crew of workers using trade skills/experience to participate in the construction process. 


Foreman's daily duties and responsibilities 

  • Reading blueprints to determine dimensions, walls sizes etc.
  • Able to hold a set schedule 
  • Able to operate efficiently to hold a schedule
  • Training and motivating crew 
  • Operating a Telehandler 
  • Pulling Layout and operating a total station.
  • Contacting the Project Superintendent when getting low on materials or tools

What are the daily duties of a Foreman? 

On a typical day, the Foreman starts by reviewing the weekly schedule to determine what needs accomplished by the end of day, monitoring weather conditions for rain, snow, wind or other inclement conditions that may affect the daily schedule. The Foreman will then ensure all workers are present. A crew meeting is then held at the job trailer where the foreman reviews safety hazards, delegates tasks among the crew members and oversees the beginning of operations. Foreman’s are also responsible for all construction layouts. Foreman’s assist crews in the completion of all aspects of pouring concrete, general framing, and forklift operation. Foreman is responsible for crew personnel forms, crew timecards, and coordinating with the Superintendent for the work comp process. Foreman is responsible for every crew member, the quality of work produced, upholding the set daily schedule, efficiencies for the entire crew, ensure that the crew is safely operating to OSHA/Contractor safety standards and respond to any accidents or errors. 


What qualities make a great Foreman? 

A great Foreman is someone with a natural ability to lead. This quality enables them to oversee a crew. They need to have excellent time management to ensure that the crew completes tasks in an appropriate time frame. Forman’s need to have excellent verbal communication to relay information between management and the onsite crew. A great Foreman also has a commitment to safe working practices. Foreman must communicate with management on all potential opportunities for higher efficiency methods, delays, hazards, etc.

 Attention to Detail. A good Foreman knows how to read blueprints and building plans, and ensure quality and efficiency are met. Foremans have to be precise and meticulous in their work as there is little room for error. 

Problem Solving Skills. Some designs are more challenging than others; some projects may have harder constructability whereas the Foreman needs problem solving skills to assess and determine a solution.

Basic Math Skills. This is a skilled trade; Foreman must understand basic math and coach others on tricks of trade. Completing calculations and measurements is part of a Foreman's job.

Honesty and Integrity. Foremans are critical in leading and participating in the building process, and it is essential that co-workers trust them. A good Foreman acts with integrity and transparency. In this business, your income is highly dependent on your reputation. 

Communication.  A Foreman must clearly communicate with coworkers and their Superintendent. It is essential to have great communication in order to operate effectively.

Disciplination. A Foreman must discipline the crew to ensure workers are arriving on time, practicing safety procedures, and producing quality work.
