Job Summary

Functions as a Licensed Nurse in the State of Iowa who provides medical treatment and personal care services as directed by a physician and the resident.

Essential Functions

  • Assists the Wellness Coordinator monitoring of daily tasks and documentation for resident care.
  • Interacts with other residents, staff, and families as the need arises and represents the core values and mission statement of Edencrest and Highmark Senior Living.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders ad the scope of their own professional license in the State of Iowa.
  • May assist with resident reviews and assessments per regulatory requirement and by the direction of the Wellness Coordinator.
  • Assists with on-call nursing overage as needed and as directed by the Wellness Coordinator or the Executive Director.
  • Monitors PCC Dashboard for completeness and compliance.
  • Can assist with training, guidance, and delegation of nursing tasks to direct care staff.
  • Can utilize equipment such as catheters, pressure relief devices, and oxygen supplies per Iowa and Federal Code.
  • Can collect and transport resident laboratory samples for analysis.
  • Assist or lead an all-staff in-service or clinical education session.
  • Possess the ability to follow physician orders, provide follow up feedback to families, or coordinating communication of clinical information between the two parties.
  • Participates in personal and professional growth opportunities.
  • Monitoring and documenting vital signs and detecting variances in the baseline of residents.
  • Can assist with a safe, comfortable environments for residents.
  • Be a team player with a dynamic leadership team.
  • Has the ability to assist residents with activities of daily living.
  • Has a welcoming demeanor and provides great customer service.
  • Performs all other job duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience

  • Has a valid Iowa RN or LPN License.
  • Has a valid CPR certification.
  • Must complete annual requirements for the State of Iowa.
  • Have the professionalism necessary for establishing and maintaining a good rapport with residents and family members. Ability to handle emotionally charged situations in a professional manner.
  • Have an interest in and a sympathetic attitude toward caring for the elderly.
  • Have the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is frequently required to use hand and finger to touch, handle and feel and required to reach with hands and arms. Must be able to meet certain physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping or performing other work requiring physical exertion such as lifting (up to 50 lbs). Must be able to climb flights of stairs.
  • The work environment conditions described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to work well in well lighted/ventilated areas. Employees may be subjected to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc.
  • Regular attendance as prescribed by the operating hours of the community with exceptions for allowed absences per policy.
  • Must be able to move within the community and the resident's apartment freely and without limitation.
  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to endure the resident's environment, which may be unsanitary and uncomfortable.
  • Must be able to assist residents to roll in bed, sit up from a lying position, stand from a sitting position, transfer assist to and from w/c and provide stand-by assist during resident ambulation or other activities of daily living.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing in the State of Iowa.
  • The ability to comprehend, compose, and speak the English Language.
  • Fluent in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
