We are hiring a Director of Nursing for our growing team Responsible for the planning, direction, implementation, and evaluation of the Nursing Services and Performance Improvement program for the behavioral health facility. In partnership with the Community CEO this position will develop operational and capital budgets, long and short-term goals, and policies and procedures for the department. Oversees administrative functions and staff. Is a resource person to nursing staff. Knowledgeable of a wide range of disorders, including cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral. Coordinates the performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organizes programs, policies, and procedures that are developed to assess, evaluate, and meet the needs of patients of inpatient psychiatric services and transitional psychiatric program requirements.
  • Implements standards of nursing practice in the behavioral healthcare setting, annually reviewing and revising as necessary to reflect changes in nursing practice.
  • Addresses and supports cultural practices if such practices do not harm others or interfere with the planned course of therapy.
  • Ensure clear, concise, and current written policies and procedures are available and approved to assist the staff and minimize risk factors.
  • Ensures patient care is performed in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Recommends modifications, additions, or deletions of personnel policies to ensure reasonable hours and acceptable working conditions to provide patient care coverage.
  • Initiates and participates in problem-solving policy forming conferences for psychiatric patient care services. Maintains close coordination with all departments to ensure continuity and collaboration of services.
  • Participates with the Governing Body, management, medical staff, and clinical leaders in the facility's decision-making process.
  • Plans and recommends to CEO facilities or equipment modifications thereto needed to provide patient care.
  • Serves as a member of professional staff committees in matters pertaining to patient care.
  • Participates in the Executive Finance, Board of Trustees, and Medical Staff departmental meetings within the inpatient psychiatric hospital.
  • Plans and coordinates staffing needs with Administration), utilizing the respective service managers for planning the budgeting requirements for staff, performance of work, supplies, and equipment.
  • Responsible for cost controls to ensure maximum effectiveness of funds expended from approved departmental budgets.
  • Implements an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess and improve the quality of nursing care delivered to psychiatric patients.
  • Ensures each nursing department's performance improvement program interfaces with and supports the nursing department performance improvement program.
  • Assures that nursing leaders review monthly performance improvement compliance with established indicators and sees that corrective actions are taken when negative outcomes are identified.
  • Collaborates with facility leaders in developing, implementing, reviewing, revising, and monitoring facility-wide performance improvement activities.
 

Key Experience and Education Needed:

  • Master’s level or bachelor’s level Registered Nurse with working knowledge and experience in nursing principles and theories in the inpatient psychiatric hospital field. Experience managing regulatory and accrediting organizations with reporting and survey management.
  • Knowledgeable about regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, and local regulations and accrediting organization standards. 
  • Master’s level nursing degree preferred or Bachelor of Nursing degree with 3-5 years’ experience in nursing leadership in an inpatient psychiatric hospital.
  • Prior experience in the regulatory and accreditation preparation and survey process associated with nursing care and patient safety.  
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years in a behavioral health inpatient/outpatient environment is preferred.
  • Ongoing education in behavioral health preferred. 
  • Proficient in information technology 
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance and regulatory and accreditation programs.
