The Position:
Controller - Independent contractor 1099
BPS is seeking a strong financial leader based out of our corporate office in Shafter, CA. This position reports to the chief financial officer and will be responsible for a team of approximately 10 employees. The leader will lead the accounting team and manage the company's accounting operations.
Responsibilities:
· Oversees, supports, and develops a shared services accounting team while driving efficiency & automation to keep up with the demands of a fast-paced growth (through acquisitions) business.
· Manages the accounting for general ledger and accruals, including detailed analysis and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts, while ensuring compliance with US GAAP, local accounting requirements, and internal policies.
· Team leadership through managing talent, including motivating, coaching, training, and mentoring team members. Enthusiasm in working with a team.
· Streamlines, automates, maintains, and improves processes and internal controls. Enhances operational effectiveness and efficiency within the organization.
· Evaluate the team's processes and procedures, identify opportunities for process improvement and greater efficiency, and advocate for change. Collaborate with leaders across departments.
· Assists the Corporate Controller in the monthly and annual financial closing processes.
· Supports the oversight and operations of the Accounting Department in a shared services model, which includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, and the general ledger team.
· Evaluates, develops, and improves department controls, systems, and procedures that increase accuracy and efficiency.
· Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
· Leads in identifying the training needs of the accounting staff and developing training programs to ensure minimal ramp-up time and continual development.
· Addresses employee performance issues and concerns professionally to maximize employee performance and satisfaction.
· Actively works to improve and maintain employee engagement and morale to increase retention and productivity.
· Supports producing periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles; understands all financial statements and provides analysis before and after the closing process; maintains timely and accurate account reconciliations.
· Provides financial analysis and recommendations as requested.
· Assists in managing the annual financial audit for completion by the deadline.
· Manages various tax and compliance activities, including sales and property tax audits.
· Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field - 8+ years of related experience
- Previous management experience leading a department of at least 10 individuals
- Active CPA license and public accounting experience is a plus
- Strong understanding of accounting, finance, and management principles
- Proven experience as a business partner, adept at building trust and inspiring others, especially in a rapidly growing and evolving business environment
- Excitement about working in a hyper-growth, fast-changing, and sometimes ambiguous environment
- Excellent ability to establish rapport, gain trust, and build consensus within a team
