Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Salary: $35,293
Are you passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness? Join the Safe Harbors Program at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board and be a part of our mission to provide essential services to those in need as a Homeless Services Assistant.
Since 1971, our organization has been dedicated to offering high-quality, community-based services to citizens affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders on the Peninsula.
As a Homeless Services Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Safe Harbors Program, which aims to reduce homelessness by providing housing first. Your responsibilities will include assisting Outreach Workers and Supervisors in delivering services to homeless clients with substance use and/or mental health related disorders. This entails providing residential and other related services to clients, directly impacting the general health and welfare of the homeless population we serve.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's):
- Proficiency in driving an automobile. A clean DMV driving record is required.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with office machines.
- Comprehensive understanding of community and agency resources and programs, as well as regional and state resources for homeless individuals with mental health issues.
- Knowledge of human development and behavior.
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients and their families.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with colleagues and representatives from various agencies.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Capacity to address the total spectrum of service needs.
If you're ready to contribute to our efforts to combat homelessness and supporting individuals in need, we encourage you to apply for the Homeless Services Assistant position. Together, we can make a difference in our community.
Homeless Services Assistant Requirements: Associates Degree in Human Services and six (6) months experience OR two (2) years substance use or mental health related experience.
The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
