Position Summary: Stewards AHIP’s finances by providing leadership and coordination financial planning, financing, budget management, and to ensure accounting policies and procedures conform within Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The CFO reports to the CEO and partners with senior leadership to ensure the overall financial objectives of the Association are met. This position requires work performed on-site in our Washington, D.C. office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates financial planning and leads financial operations to support the policies and objectives of the Association as determined by the President and CEO and the Administrative Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Periodically reports to the Board of Directors and its Administrative Committee on the financial performance and outlook for the Association.
  • Works closely with the President & CEO, and senior leadership to support and anticipate financial requirements and budgetary needs in alignment with the overall budget.
  • Monitors and analyzes monthly operating results against budget; works closely with the executive team to inform them of needed budget modifications or significant deviations within the financial statements.
  • Partners actively and closely with membership and non-dues revenue functions to ensure accurate and timely forecasting and reporting, and the association adapts to changes in its revenue outlook.
  • Oversees the daily operations of the finance department; sets forth and enforces internal control procedures.
  • Manages the Finance team, focusing on teamwork, communication, customer service, accountability, and transparency.
  • Oversees all financial transactions, collaborating with Human Resources on compensation and benefits, as well as IT and facilities, with the asset management of the association.
  • Responsible for cash flow management to ensure the availability of funds to meet operating obligations on time.
  • Oversees investment portfolio administration to appropriately steward the Association’s reserves per the Association’s Investment Policy (to be periodically updated and reviewed with the Administrative Committee).
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal tax reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for coordinating and supporting the annual audit.
  • Collaborates with the Legal department to prepare all financial components for the Quarterly LD-2 reporting.
  • Review FEC reporting before submission.
  • Responsible for ensuring efficient and effective use of software and tools to support budget, accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc.
  • Responsible for working with insurance brokers to obtain appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Responsible for periodic review of reserve policy and reporting to the Board and Administrative Committee.
  • Performs other tasks as required or assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises Finance, IT, and Facilities teams.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

• Bachelor’s Degree required.

• Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in finance at non-profit institutions – including but not limited to financial leadership experience at a trade association.

• Demonstrated track record of financial management experience, including budget preparation, financial reporting, financial compliance, and investment portfolio stewardship.

• Demonstrated high integrity in overseeing non-profit finances.

• CPA required.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
