Summary:
Supervisors are responsible for overseeing the equipment, staff and processes of their assigned areas. They manage their team and oversee scheduling and day-to-day production activities. Supervisors are primarily in charge of ensuring the production area is operational and maintaining the ongoing production of products/materials. They are also responsible for troubleshooting any issues that arise.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the manufacturing and procedures in the manufacturing production operations while promoting safety, quality and an environment of teamwork and cooperation
- Evaluating each work station of the production process to maintain optimum system efficiency
- Enforcing all safety policies on the production floor
- Creating and overseeing employee training to increase production, enhance safe operations and ensure profitability
- Inspecting products for quality and accuracy prior to shipping
- Maintaining communication between management and employees to ensure that necessary policies are understood and followed as well as report employee concerns to Human Resources
- Ensuring that the flow of resources like raw materials is maintained and that production items are delivered as needed and used properly and efficiently
- Provide leadership and direction to department staff
- Schedule and coordinate work that is to be completed
- Monitor and report daily and monthly production goals as well as enter daily production totals into the production sheets
- Ensure that all work related injuries are reported in a timely manner and all appointments and paperwork are in order
- Communicate and enforce company policies in a fair and consistent manner
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment
- Adhere to departmental budget and recommend capital budget needs
- Report any items that are in need of maintenance repairs
- Assist with inspections of your departments with OSHA/MSHA inspectors
- Assist with vendors or outside contractors as needed
- Monitor supplies and communicate with office as needed
- Conduct weekly safety discussions
- Conduct performance evaluations
- Handle additional tasks as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Minimum of two years supervisor experience in a manufacturing environment
- Associate degree in supervisor management
- Ability to create and adhere to effective schedules
- Strong organizational skills
- Firm understanding of safety regulations including MSHA or OSHS
- Ability to read a Material Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
- Computer skills and the ability to use MS Office products
- Strong leadership skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; Bi-lingual a plus- but not required
Competencies:
- Ability to coach and motivate staff and empower others to deliver results
- Ability to quickly gain product knowledge
- Ability to collect and analyze data to make adjustments/improvements in safety, quality, and production
- Ability to understand mechanical processes
- Ability to create goals and action plans for department
- Ability to complete written reports legibly and accurately
