ACADEMIC ADVISOR

POSITION SUMMARY

The Academic Advisor actively creates, promotes and maintains a college and career-going culture that supports students and families for a successful transition from high school to post-secondary education and/or career. The Academic Advisor ensures clear, realistic, and supportive paths for students by developing and monitoring individualized college and career plans with students.

Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate and facilitate college/career-related events including workshops, events, and tours
  • Meet with students 1:1 to assess individual progress on graduation and college/career plans and promptly modify and procure support as needed
  • Communicate college and career progress monitoring to staff and families on a planned basis and create a shared Calendar of events
  • Oversee the leadership advisory programs, including developing advisory curriculum and coaching advisory staff as needed
  • Provide Transcript reviews
  • Assist in the establishment of the Course schedule with other members of the school administration staff
  • Direct the AP planning and testing process for the student body
  • Maintain SAT, ACT and other tests for student information and track student registrations
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure positive college and career progress including referral to summer school, credit recovery, and/or services provided by outside agencies

Build & manage systems and structures

  • Maintain student transcript data with accuracy and integrity on the SIS system
  • Manage the tracking systems for student applications to: FAFSA, scholarships, Develop and establish a calendar and/or roster of students, school-wide events, college tours/fairs, and college exploration activities and family programs to promote college and career culture
  • Develop and oversee advisory curriculum focused on college and career culture as required
  • Compile and report student graduation, college, and career data regularly and report to School Dean and or Site Director
  • Develop positive relationships with school community that are aligned with AMPS core values
  • Co-plan and manage the monitoring and direct the 4-year process to student graduation and postsecondary pathway
  • Understand student IEP, 504, MTSS and SST plans and collaborate with key stakeholders
  • Coordinate, plan, calendar and facilitate Manage scholarship information,
  • A-G Course Development
  • Prepare and deliver college, career, and academic workshops
  • Coordinate, promote, and educate students and families on Early College opportunities and dual enrollment including applications and enrollment process
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies:

  • Has worked with urban high school aged students of diverse backgrounds including DACA students, English Learners,
  • Knowledge of current state and federal laws governing counseling of students and FERPA
  • Maintains professional confidentiality
  • An effective Multi Tasker who understands Project Management processes
  • Ability to analyze and use qualitative and quantitative data on a regular basis to drive decision making strong judgment.
  • Knowledgeable of high school graduation and college admissions requirements
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Minimum educational level:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of CRM software (Salesforce, etc)
  • Knowledge of Powerschool mor other student information systems
  • Bilingual: Spanish preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) most of the workday.
  • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects up to twenty pounds rarely.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
