Summary/objective

This position may require operating a Mechanic truck and must be able to pass DOT Medical Clearance. Must be willing and able to travel to different projects. The Field Service Technician must have the ability to lift, load/unload parts and materials, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and perform repairs on rock crushing equipment and other machinery. The Field Service Tech is also responsible for servicing equipment at the shop. Additionally, they assist in cultivating customer relationships. They are also vital to maintaining an orderly and safe work environment in the field and shop.

The position requires strong communication with Service Manager, Field Sales Team, Customer and other team members regarding maintenance activities, repairs and safety. The position is responsible for performing all duties and responsibilities within applicable OSHA and MSHA regulations, company policy, and exercises ordinary care expected of a professional Field Service Technician.

This is a safety sensitive position that requires the ability to perform substantial walking, sitting, squatting, standing, bending, lifting up to 50lbs, and being able to get on and off equipment safely. The position is also responsible for using a variety of tools: hand tools, power tools, drill presses, grinding machines, welding and flame-cutting equipment, and jacks and hoists to lift and move large parts.

A Field Service Technician must be able to perform pre and post-truck inspections, maintain driver logs and ensure DOT compliance at all times. To repair equipment, Technicians often lift heavy parts and tools, handle greasy and dirty parts, and stand or lie in awkward or strained positions. Every employee is held accountable to perform safely and efficiently.

  • Diagnose and repair mobile rock crushing equipment and conveyors
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, changing outerwear parts in crushers, checking/replacing bearings on conveyors, recording of damage or misuse of equipment
  • Keep work area clean orderly; Maintain safe and responsible work habits in an outdoor shop environment
  • Document repairs and properly handle all documentation for new equipment purchases and Warranty.
  • Change/Repair conveyor belts and fix/weld up old steel hoppers


Competencies

  • Understand basic electrical and hydraulic schematics
  • Knowledge of the proper use for tools like electrical meters, hydraulic gauges, and lifting equipment
  • Able to communicate well with customers and technical support from the factory
  • Able to measure accurately with calipers, feeler gauges, and tape measures
  • Has knowledge of safety procedures for working with heavy equipment/objects
  • Basic welding/fabrication experience


Supervisory responsibilities

Work environment

  • Work outdoors in various climates including extreme heat and cold
  • Requires walking, standing, sitting, moderate to heavy lifting, infrequent climbing
  • Exposure to outside temperatures in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to work some weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
  • Must enjoy working alone
  • Periodic on-call duties


Physical demands

  • Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs and working 40-hour weeks.


Travel required

  • Frequent travel required (with occasional overnight stay)


Required education and experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Service Technician: 3 years (Preferred)


Additional eligibility requirements

  • Must have a Valid Driver's License
  • Authorized to work in the US. Goodfellow participates in E-verify
