General Description:
As an integral member of the Fund Development Team, the Communications Specialist tells the story of LSS through a variety of mediums to meet annual fundraising goal of $1.6 million. The Communications Specialist is sharply focused on maintaining consistent, evocative, and heartwarming communications geared toward our supporters, while also strengthening our brand's presence throughout Arizona.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

WEIGHTDESCRIPTION50Create and implement comprehensive fundraising communications plan to meet fund development goals:
  • Write and produce direct mail pieces 6 times per year
  • Write and produce weekly e-communication to supporters
  • Oversee giving day campaign strategy and implementation
  • Create materials to reinforce major gifts and donor retention strategy
  • Design materials for Building Foundations Luncheon and other donor events
  • Use donor database to track communications lists and activities. Pull reports as needed.
  • Create and distribute annual report
20Support communications work agency-wide, including:
  • Support internal communications campaigns geared toward staff
  • Maintain and enhance LSS-SW website
  • Maintain LSS-SW Facebook and Instagram pages, evaluate social media presence on an ongoing basis
  • Produce ad-hoc communications pieces for CEO
10Oversee agency-wide public relations strategy:
  • Screen and respond to media inquiries
  • Maintain media list
  • Coordinate interviews and work with spokespeople
  • Maintain fact sheets and talking points
5Maintain LSS-SW branding kit, templates, and print-on-demand materials for consistency of tone, feel, and uniformity of messages:
  • Work with commercial printer to meet agency wide printing needs, including stationary, business cards, and brochures
  • Support LSS-SW program staff in upholding LSS-SW branding standards
10Source content from across LSS-SW by interviewing and photographing staff, volunteers, and clients5Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing or related field or commensurate experience in a nonprofit environment.

Additional Expectations
This position will require working evenings and weekends. Employee will be required to travel within Phoenix metro area as well as Mesa and possible other surrounding cities to visit church and community partners. Candidate must possess a valid Arizona driver's license and fingerprint clearance card. Must have reliable transportation, a valid AZ driver license and current automobile insurance.
