Job Title: Supervisor, Certified Pharmacy Technician

Reports To: Director of Pharmacy

Job Summary: Responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and organizing onboarding, training, scheduling, and day to day operations activities of pharmacy technicians and other assigned employees. Performs and leads administrative tasks as assigned. Ensures functions of assigned employee staff are consistent with all applicable accreditation standards, federal laws and regulations, state laws and regulations for all states in which pharmacy maintains licensure, and CCHCI policies and procedures. Ensures adequate staffing according to workload while maintaining expected productivity levels. Builds and maintains relationships with internal and external business partners.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Oversees pharmacy technicians and other assigned employees.
  • Develops pharmacy technician accountability standards.
  • Oversees hiring, evaluating, recognizing, and disciplining of pharmacy technicians.
  • Oversees orientation and training of new pharmacy technicians.
  • Oversees pharmacy staff training and instruction to establish and maintain required competencies.
  • Evaluates pharmacy technician or assigned staff performance in an accurate, consistent, objective, and timely manner.
  • Manages performance and service levels including but not limited to pharmacy operations, customer service, and patient-safety performance levels for both internal and external customers.
  • Establishes staff development plans to ensure continued professional growth of staff members.
  • Determines and assesses pharmacy workflow and implements adjustments as needed.
  • Oversees Pharmacy Technician schedules to assure adequate and consistent service.
  • Develops a positive and productive working environment.
  • Engages pharmacists and frontline staff and other resources to optimize individual and pharmacy performance.
  • Communicates personnel issues to other members of the Senor Pharmacy management team.
  • Maintains compliance with all applicable CCHCI policies and procedures, all applicable federal and state laws and accreditation standards through development, management and implementation of policies, procedures, standard operating protocols, staff training and auditing.
  • Develops and revise policies and procedures, and standard operating protocols, as necessary.
  • Oversees quality assurance activities of pharmacy department, maintains, and performs at highest achievable level of technical competence and work performance.
  • Establishes pharmacy technician goals and tracks performance against goals.
  • Serves as communication liaison between technical staff Director, Pharmacists, and Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Assumes or delegates duties of pharmacy inventory management in pharmacies without an individual in this position. These duties include but are not limited to inventory control, order submission, inter-departmental billing functions, recalls, return of expired medications and working with vendor representatives.
  • Participates in Pharmacy Technician duties when workload dictates.
  • Builds and supports effective relationships with assigned internal and external stakeholders and organizations.
  • Leads development, growth, and maintenance of all assigned business areas, as directed by departmental leadership.
  • Works as a liaison to CCHCI contract and credentialing team to promote standardization and utilization efforts.
  • Acts as a resource for product and vendor information for pharmacy department and as a resource for products and suppliers.
  • Maintains philosophy consistent with pharmacy's customer service standards as described in applicable policy.
  • Leads team, department, and/or system projects as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications - Education, Experience, Certificates & Licenses:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification.
  • AZ Board of Pharmacy license.
  • Four years' experience as a Pharmacy Technician Supervisor or in a similar setting.
  • Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Valid driver's License.

Required Language Skills:

  • Ability to comprehend and compose instructions, correspondence, and communications in English in both oral and written format.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, internal providers and staff and other agency staff working in cooperation with the organization.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally exert enough force to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to continuously remain in a stationary position.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to constantly move about inside the workplace to assist patients, operate office equipment, etc.
  • Possesses hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to constantly operate computer, telephone and other office machinery, and grasp and seize small objects such as medication tablets and containers.
  • Possesses close visual acuity necessary to accurately record and view information on a computer monitor, handwritten and typed documents, as well as accurately identify and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to perceive the size, shape, temperature and/or texture of objects by touch.
  • Ability to discern the nature of sounds at a normal spoken volume.

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform medical math that may include the use of ratio/proportion, dosage calculation, metric and household equivalents, roman numerals, abbreviations, and general math including percentages, etc.
  • Ability to skillfully gather and analyze data.
  • Ability to perform a variety of assignments and make decisions requiring considerable independent judgment.
  • Displays high level of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Displays sound and accurate judgment and ability to make timely decisions.
  • Knowledge of health plans and community health centers preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and Corporate Compliance rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of 340B regulations preferred.
  • Computer literacy required with proficiency in use of all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Knowledge of and pharmacy software preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently and develop realistic action plans.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service by mail, telephone, and in-person.
  • Ability to work in a team and help team members when they need it.
  • Ability to be innovative, apply fresh ideas and continuously improve skills.

Work Environment & Conditions:

  • Work environment is typical of a health care facility setting with occasional exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and hazardous chemicals.
  • Work requires reliable transportation as position requires occasional travel and extended hours to include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Work requires the ability to be contacted by cell phone during or outside of regular work hours.
